Once proving the bogusness of Bush\Clinton's belief in 'free trade'. Here are a few articles on this issue:

This is yet another example of the Bush administration flouting the international community and doing whatever the hell it wants.  Although this is a little less serious than say, the invasion of another country, it is further evidence that Bush is an international bully.

Why does this thread only get one reply while Jfern's "OMG WARMONGER OMG HACK OMG!111" and BRTD's grand detirus and bilge of the internet get so much attention. I mean it's not exactly a number one issue, but it does show something extremely important about the nature of the current adminstration. Much more than yet another thread on the Iraq bloodbath can.

I've long laughed at what he describes there as how the US just rejects any ruling that it doesn't like.  Makes me really wonder what the heck the point of it is if you can just go "yeah, we're not gonna do that, sorry".  It'd be like a criminal convicted of a crime going "yeah, I don't really like this ruling, I'm not gonna go to jail, k?".

If the jailers can't control the criminal, he can do just that.

I asked what the point was; your statement just substantiates what I said.

Obviously, as I was agreeing with you. My comment was directly addressing the lack of power these free trade bodies have.

The fact is, that, almost without exception, the rulings of these "lacking power" international free trade bodies get followed - if not immediately, then after a decent period of negotiation.  One way or another, but  I would be willing to bet  that this will be resolved, and U.S. would have to yield (or, alternatively, Antigua would be more than amply compensated - at the U.S. expense).
