It should be a tax just on the rich just for the Iraq war. If passed, the Iraq war would immediately end. If Pelosi wasn't a warmonger, the next Iraq funding bill would contain such a tax increase.

This is stupid. The majority of tax payers don't support this stupid war.

"House Speaker Nancy Pelosi opposes the measure." Translation: The bill is DOA.

Why is it bad politics or policy to pay for the war?

I am pretty sure that it was Joe Lieberman who originally came out with this idea.

Indeed.

I think Jfern's got an idea with hitting the top marginal rate with a surcharge.

They need to just man up and cut the funding.

You couldn't be more right about that. Imagine if this actually happened!

LOL,  jfern you really have gone off the deep end.  Pelosi as a war supporter is just too much.  I wouldn't be surprised to see you post a series of conspiracy theories in which the two parties conspired together to keep the war going in order to distract people from the lackluster economy and other domestic issues.

As for the surtax, its a good thing Hoyer won the majority position instead of Murtha.

This is just like Rangel's draft proposal. It has zero chance of passing, its proponents know that, and it's just put out to prove a point.

The 'conspiracy' occurs long before decisions are handed down to the parties, padfoot.  One might say the conspiracy is inside of all of us.

Well, if she's against the war, she needs to stop cutting down proposals like this. Although Steny Hoyer is even worse. Maybe she's too timid to cross him.

Anyways, I think there's something ironic about a supposed "San Francisco liberal" immediately killing this sort of idea that came from a Wisconsin representative who recently called anti-war people "idiotic liberals". I don't care about that comment, it's just amusing.
