Just don't use it!

You only have to list ONE choice legally, so just exercise your right to do so.

Voice your anti-preferentiality by not using pref voting.  IT is a UAC ploy, plain and simple.

Preferential voting was introduced by a Republican Senator not the UAC, the UAC just voted for it.

And it was originally proposed before the UAC even existed......

In upcoming elections, I won't be using it.

Can someone tell me the specific mechanics of how preferential voting would/will work?  I'd sure appreciate it.

Can someone tell me the specific mechanics of how preferential voting would/will work?  I'd sure appreciate it.

Basically, you rank the candidates in order of preference. Lets say there are 4 candidates, Alan, Bob, Corey, and Dillon. After all the votes are cast, the number of 1st place votes is tallied.
Alan- 5 first place votes
Bob- 4 first place votes
Corey- 1 first place vote
Dillon- 2 first place votes.

Corey would be eliminated. The voter who voted for Corey as his first prefrence, would have his vote moved to his second preference, Bob.

Alan, 5
Bob, 5
Dillon, 2

Now Dillon would be eliminated. The people who voted for him ranked Alan second, so 2 votes would be given to Alan.

Alan wins, 7-5. There's probably a better explanation somewhere. You could try to dig up a thread of a Senate election, and see a real example.

Nah, It's a clean and lucid explanation...thanks a million!

"Automatic runoff"--I like it.  I'm two lazy to vote twice in two weeks.

Exactly, that is one of it's many advantages. I am saddened that so many Atlasians want to replace it.
