Makden Scandal: Japanese Military caught attempting to plant explosives on Japan's South Manchurian Railway. Kanji Ishihara and Seishiro Itagaki are put under arrest. Prime Minister Wakatsuki Reijiro promises a thorough investigation.

Adolf Hitler found dead of a self-inflicted gun shot wound, following the death of Geli Raubal.

1932:

In Britain the Archbishop of Canterbury accepts church remarriage of divorces.

Botched kidnapping attempt on Charles Lindbergh III.

Patman Bonus Bill passed in Congress, guaranteeing cash bonuses to veterans.

Antonio de Oliveira Salazar assassinated by unidentified leftist assailants.

Peg Entswhistle reads letter from Beverly Hills Playhouse, offering her a role as a suicide.

German president Hindenburg begins negotiations with Hermann Göring about the formation of a new government.

1933:

Giuseppe Zangara assassinates President-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt, in Miami, Florida.

American President Herbert Clark Hoover is succeeded by John Nance Garner, who in reference to the Great Depression, gives his "I'm in charge and don't forget it" inauguration speech. Garner is sworn in by Chief Justice Charles Evans Hughes. It would also be the last time Inauguration Day in the United States would occur on March 4.

International court in the Hague decides that Eastern Greenland belongs to Norway.

Aviator William Lancaster takes off from England and reaches the Cape, breaking records.

Tax Relief Act of 1935 passed in US. President Garner reluctantly signs it amidst massive political and public pressure, after initially threatening a veto.

German Civil War: An attempted ban on political parties sparks armed leftist resistance. Paul von Hidenburg, Hermann Göring, Werner von Blomberg, and others are all killed in the ensuing violence.

Englebert Dolfuss is assassinated.

1934:

Aborted coup in Estonia by Konstantin Päts and general Johan Laidoner. Both men are shot soon after.

Nikola Tesla unveils "death ray" weapon with a range of 250 miles (United States).

King Alexander I survives an assassination attempt in Marseilles, France by Vlada Georgieff (Yugoslavia)

Hays Code repealed, Studios cite budget concerns and "lack of enforcement."

French fascist conference at Montreux led by Marcel Bucard (France)

1936:

US Depression officially ends, though unemployment lags at around 12%.

Richard Nixon accepted into the FBI

The Imperial Way Faction executed after attempting to overthrow the government. (Japan)

A. Philip Randolph organizes the National Negro Congress in Chicago, Illinois in order to further civil rights. (United States)

Francisco Franco executed after attempting to overthrow Democratic Republic of Spain.

Olympics Held in Barcelona, Spain.

Joe Louis knocks out Max Schmeling in the twelfth round of their heavyweight boxing match at Yankee Stadium in New York City.

President John N. Garner narrowly re-elected over William E. Borah.

United Auto Worker's Union strike broken up.

1937:

First concentration camps open in France.

Goatees come into fashion.

Flag Day becomes a state holiday across the United States.

Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan land at Howland Island.

Fascists take Hamburg, only to be bombed with Russian-supplied aircraft by Communist forces.

Marihuana Tax Act is voted down by Congress.

1938:

USS Akron (ZRS-4) docks in the Empire State Building.

Research into the possibility of using television signals to guide bombs and rockets begins independently in several countries, most notably: the United States, UK, USSR, and France...

Popular Mechanics magazine introduces hemp as a "billion dollar crop" (United States)

Realizing the enormous potential profits to be made from the sale of transistor-equipped commercial radios, RCA vice-president David Sarnoff convinces the company's board of directors to buy the patent rights for the original transistor design. The company's research and development staff is then put to work looking for ways to improve on the design.

Robert Johnson returns to Dallas, Texas to record a hit single "Coal Walkin'"

Missouri ex rel. Gaines Supreme Court orders the desegregation of education facilities

1939:

Kirov orders Tukachevsky to begin planning an invasion of Finland.

RCA engineers unveil an experimental transistor-equipped television set at a company stockholders' meeting in Los Angeles. David Sarnoff proudly proclaims the device to be the future of entertainment and promises that RCA will soon be manufacturing enough of these devices to provide one for every home in America. Television, until this time, had been bulky and impractical. With the widespread use of the transistor, however, a smaller unit and larger screen became possible, while overall prices fell. RCA decides to develop the technology on a limited basis.

Alaskan Congressional Delegate Anthony Dimond is run over by a cab.

Riots in Quebec, after Canadian government raids immigrant neighborhoods.

Congress approves Pacific-American Trade Agreement. (PATA)

1940:

"Brawling" becomes popular in the United States, Germany, and Ireland...

End of German Civil War. Ernst Thalmann established People's Republic of Westphallia.

The world's first 24-hour television channel is set up by WKBC in New York City, in order to meet the needs of the exploding population of television sets.

Italy granted naval bases in Casablanca by French government

U.S. government claims to have secret to "tele-force" for Tesla weapons.

Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan.

Alfred M. Landon elected President of the United States over James A. Farley.

1941:

Ford Motor Company announces the development of hemp-based fuel (United States)

Robert Goddard heads United States Space Exploration Program.

United States liberalizes immigration laws with Japan.

Rosemary Kennedy treated for severe "mental illness."

State of Jefferson established in the United States.

I like this timeline NDN, good job. Just a question about the 1940 Presidential Election. Does President Garner decline to run for a second term in 1940 or is he defeated by James A. Farley for the Democratic Nomination?

I like this timeline NDN, good job. Just a question about the 1940 Presidential Election. Does President Garner decline to run for a second term in 1940 or is he defeated by James A. Farley for the Democratic Nomination?
He declines to run because in essence, it would really be equivalent to 3 terms.
