Welcome to New York!

Hi, I'm Senator Earl A. Washburn, chief organizer of the first ever primary for Atlas Progressives. Over the last three weekends we saw some exciting races in all of Atlasia's 5 regions. The people have spoken, they have selected their delegates. Now, it is the delegate's turn to select the next President of Atlasia.

As of this moment, I declare this convention officially open! Citizens of Atlasia, I welcome you to the convention floor at historic Madison Square Garden to begin the week of festivities.

A reminder to all candidates, you have until Tuesday night at midnight to find delegates for the first ballot on Wednesday. Rules will be posted tonight. A delegate may be any Atlasian citizen (unless there are objections?)

For now, welcome! There's champagne and pizza in the lobby Smiley

Could you give me a breakdown of votes and delegates by region to put that on the wiki?

By all means, if anyone in the Pacific or Midwest wants me to seat them as delegates, PM me. I have no clue who to go with.

Rules:

The first round will actually begin at 11pm tomorrow night. At that point any citizen of Atlasia may act as a delegate for a candidate. The first round will end at 11pm on Wednesday night or when all 26 delegates have cast a ballot- whichever comes first. A candidate may at any time during the first round refuse a delegate who has cast his or her support behind him or her. A candidate will have one hour after voting is complete to refuse a delegate.

Delegates must be a citizen of a region in which the candidate they pledge their support behind has won a delegate. (as of October 8th)

If a candidate receives 50%+1 support of voting delegates, he will be declared the winner. If not, the candidate with the least amount of votes will be knocked off, and his delegates will be free to vote for whoever they want in the next round.

After the first round is complete, a second one will begin at midnight Wednesday night. Candidates will no longer be allowed to reject delegates after the first round. Only delegates who cast ballots in the first round may cast ballots in the second round, and so on unless a candidate was unable to have all their delegates vote in a specific region. The second round ends at midnight Thursday night or when a candidate has received the support of 14 delegates or when all delegates have votes. In the second round, any delegate may choose to change their vote from the first round.

If a candidate receives 50%+1 support of voting delegates, he will be declared the winner. If not, the candidate with the least amount of votes will be knocked off, and his delegates will be free to vote for whoever they want in the next round.

A third round will then proceed with the same rules as the second, except a day later if needed.

Lastly, to the candidates: I will not find delegates for you. You must find them yourself Smiley

Holy crap! I'm supposed to get 6 people, 2 from the Midwest, 2 from the Southeast, and 1 each from the Northeast and Mideast, to act as delegates by tomorrow night? Wow okay, I guess I'll get right on that.

If you want to be a Wixted/Jas delegate please PM me.

I'll let our esteemed Governor have the right of first refusal on this one, considering he's more progressive than I and represents the entire Northeast.

Colin has asked me to serve as his delegate from the Northeast, and I have said that I will serve. I would, however, be perfectly willing to step aside if minds change.

If former Governor Polnut accepts my invitation, I will be a Northeast delegate of his at the Progressive Convention.

Senator Washburn, could I ask what champagne is on offer in the lobby? It better be classy for us Progressives! Smiley

You know, the real stuff. From France.

Of course, a reminder to all, one doesn't have to declare their intentions to be delegates here quite yet Smiley

« Edited: October 09, 2007, 04:45:37 AM by Lt. Governor Rockefeller Republican »

Just to let you know Senator Washburn, I am now officially a Northeast delegate for former Governor of the Mideast, Jack Polnut. I got confirmation from the Governor at 5.00pm this afternoon (my local time).

Yet another question I would like to ask Senator Washburn. Will anybody be giving a Keynote Address like in RL Democratic and Republican National Conventions? I would be happy to do it, if it was offered to me. However I'm sure there would be many of people in Atlasia that would make better speeches than myself.

I cannot wait until the counting begins on Wednesday. I would like to take this time and thank Senator Washburn for organizing this Convention for us Progressives. You have done a great job doing so Senator. And we mean it Wink
