Was randomly looking through some of the town results and they looked interesting so, obviously, I had to make a map.

I can't believe that Amherst went Republican!

If I am correct, in 1994 only Cambridge and Amherst did not go for Weld.

Some small towns near Amherst didn't either. I think.

Damn! I didn't see that. WOW.

I don't think you'll ever see that kind of map again.

My hometown went for Weld which is not a shock there.

Williamstown, Amherst, and Cambridge for Weld...things have changed a bit in 17 years.

Namely, the difference has been in the past 17 years, the Republican candidate has been to the right of the Democratic candidate.  Not so in 1990!

The first "exit" of the Massachusetts Turnpike is in West Stockbridge, or it least it was fairly recently (although it's probably just the toll at the pike's western end - I've ridden through there once both ways but I don't recall whether there was an actual exit there or one just on the "free side" as used to be the case in Augusta, Maine before the ticket system was replaced with a combination of mid-turnpike and exit tolls that only vary the fees based on vehicle class).

There is an exit at West Stockbridge. Route 41, I think.

I'm just glad I only needed to get as far as Eliot so I didn't need to pay for the Maine Turnpike.

That was certainly quite the interesting Gubernatorial election.

I'm guessing Dukakis supported Weld as his successor in the general, although not publically.

Exactly. It is good to see that folks in those towns are intelligent enough to vote on the basis of ideology as opposed to being strict partisans, however. Smiley

No, he's from Texas. Class being a big factor in that election might explain it in part (though Silber actually polled better there than Patrick did in 2006!). What's interesting is to compare the class-dominated map of 1990 with the map (that Dave made a while ago) of 1998...
