I have never lived in a suburb in the American sense of the word, and never, ever will if I can help it.

If we mean Lily white Upper class type suburbs. Then Al and Lewis would definetly be two of them. The other? By choice, possibly me (though I already live in a professional white collar suburb, but it's been like that since birth) so I suspect either Gabu or Texasindy (if she still counts..)

Harry,

My friend would be quite upset over your Auburn image in your sig.  hehehe . . . but I'm not going to mention it to her out of fear for my life.  *laughs*

Given how when I was younger I lived in the suburbs and when I'm home on break I live in them so I'm not on the last. Now if it's for planning on living in them in the future I do not plan to live anywhere near suburbia.

Ever? Where did you grow up? Remember, city limits do not define what a suburb is, but the way your neighborhood is built.

While I grew up in the suburbs, I strongly dislike them and hope to never ever live in them again. I think I dislike them as much as you do, BRTD, but perhaps for different reasons.

First in a dirt poor ghetto town on a Reservation, and then later in a suburban part of Bismarck, ND. But I'll never live in a suburb ever again, and in fact have said that once I graduate, I'll never live in a city with less than 300,000 people.

You realize of course that there are plenty of suburbs with more than 300,000 people.

Note the word Choice and words "American Suburbs". Suburbia is quite a different beast in different places around the world - even though it gets pretty much the same portrayal (probably due to US cultural dominance.)

Plenty?

Virginia Beach, VA
Mesa, AZ

uh....

2 isn't plenty.

There's also only about 60 cities in the US with over 300,000 people. I highly doubt even a third of those are suburbs (and that's being generous, try around 1/5). But even if it is a third, then that's only about 20. Not plenty.

And they live in stereotypical American-style suburbs.

Arguably plus Brookhaven and Islip, New York.

Those are townships, which are distinct from villages or cities.  The village of Islip and the hamlet of Brookhaven definitely don't have 300,000. Of course, if you count suburban Long Island as one entity, that's 3 million people.

I'll also never living in an area with a median income over $40k (adjusted for inflation), regardless of how much I make. I don't care if I get a $200k/year job.

So you'd refuse to ever live in Manhattan?

And, though it isn't strictly speaking independent, Staten Island.
