either Gabu or Texasindy (if she still counts..)

Despite the fact that they already live in suburbs...

Note the word Choice and words "American Suburbs". Suburbia is quite a different beast in different places around the world - even though it gets pretty much the same portrayal (probably due to US cultural dominance.)

Under what definition of "suburb" would I not be living in a suburb?

Yes, Gully is making no sense here (not that that's unusual):

I'll also never living in an area with a median income over $40k (adjusted for inflation), regardless of how much I make. I don't care if I get a $200k/year job.

So you'd refuse to ever live in Manhattan?

I'd live in one of the poorer areas of it. I hate wealthy areas (and I don't care i they're liberal either, the general culture I find repulsive).

The thing is, a median income of $40,001 isn't that much in places like Manhattan, Boston, San Francisco, Marin county.  I mean, sure you'd be living pretty comfortably in North Dakota or West Virginia on that kind of money, but not those places.

Well also adjustments for cost of living can be made, but I refuse to live in a wealthy area. I've actually felt physically sick before driving through affluent areas.

The least likely person to live in a suburb is me.

I hate the suburbs so much that I'd rather live on a canoe in the river than in a suburb. I will not live in a suburb, period.

Nah, didn't know much about you. Just figured you weren't a suburb type guy. *shrugs*

I also forgot about Bandit.

Ever? Where did you grow up? Remember, city limits do not define what a suburb is, but the way your neighborhood is built.

While I grew up in the suburbs, I strongly dislike them and hope to never ever live in them again. I think I dislike them as much as you do, BRTD, but perhaps for different reasons.
Indeed. Jesus's reasons probably make sense unlike BRTD's obsession with strip clubs and indie record stores.

Why? He's a prude who doesn't care about indie amenities or strip clubs and is absolutely terrified at the slightest bit of crime. Gabu would probably sh!t his pants if someone drew a gang symbol on the entry door to his apartment building. Like someone did to mine. About two weeks ago. And it's still there. Proving how much people in my building care about it.

What part do you think is sarcasm?

However, no, none of it is sarcasm.

Well now I'm glad to know that having gang symbols or indie amenities outside your house is the height of civilisation.

And I wouldn't consider Gabu a prude. He's many things, but a prude he ain't.

Well, normal people define a prude as a person who is excessively attentive to propriety or decorum.

prude
–noun
a person who is excessively proper or modest in speech, conduct, dress, etc.

Given that I'm not adverse in any way to profanity and that I normally just go around with a casual top and blue jeans, I don't exactly think I fit the definition of "prude" terribly well.

PS: I see gang symbols often in public bathrooms downtown.  I don't pay them much attention.  I apologize for not living up to your idealization.

Bandit, isn't your city pretty much a suburb of Cincinnati?

I would never live in one, but I'd never live in a major city, either. I'm a small town kind of guy.

It isn't really. Everyone around here thinks it might as well be in the Bronx.

Isn't it more like Camden or East St. Louis than actual suburbs?

It's about like East St. Louis.

Census Bureau says Bellevue is 98.4% white and that median income for a family is $46,800. Doesn't sound much like E. St. Louis, which is 1.23% white and median income for a family is $24,567.

The northern half of Bellevue (where I live) is the poor half. It's probably less than $24,567 here.

But that's not where you live though. If it was where you lived would you care more?

pulled up the census bureau of a census tract in Bellevue median family income right around $40,000.  Face it you live in a predominately white suburb.
