Just a reminder that this bill is still being debated.

Because I'm too lazy to check for myself, can someone please restate what the amended copy of the bill is?

The same as the original except for Section 2 (which is gone).

I thought the parts of Section 1 not relating to CAFE standards were struck as well.  If they weren't, they should be.

I missed that friendly amendment. It's done.

I'd like to motion to strike section 3, subsection 1, item 1, which makes incandescent lightbulbs illegal.

A weird world we live in where most recreational drugs are legal, but lightbulbs aren't.

I'd also like to motion to strike all parts of section 3, subsection 2, because outlawing electric water heaters is just not feasible in sections of the country where natural gas pipelines are not available and solar energy is inadequate.

The two are separate amendments, of course.

I concur with Mr Moderate's sentiment. Although the use of these things should be dramatically lowered, making them illegal is not the answer.

Nearly all recreational drugs remain illegal under both federal & regional law (even in the Pacific).

Anyway, this bill DOES NOT BAN LIGHTBULBS.  It bans a certain type of lightbulbs, encouraging use of alternative lightbulbs, a step increasingly supported and being taken by many other Western countries.

Yes, I understand that it only applies to a certain kind of lightbulb, and I still think it's ridiculous.  Like I've said before, if they made a dimmable energy-saving lightbulb that actually worked the way it's supposed to, I'd have them in my condo.

The following amendments are now up for vote.

Amendment (Moderate) #1
I'd like to motion to strike section 3, subsection 1, item 1

Amendment (Moderate) #2
I'd also like to motion to strike all parts of section 3, subsection 2

Please vote Aye, Nay or Abstain on each of the amendments accordingly.

Since i missed most of the actual debate I will state my reasoning on this:

Incandescent light bulbs, in the light of what we know now, are an absolute menace on the environment, efficiency, and the economy's trend towards environmentalism. I think that capitalism works best when it is watched by a government that knows when to step in when it has failed to progress society as is necessary for continued success, and I believe this is one of those times.

It is with that in mind that I will vote nay on Moderate's first amendment and abstain on the second, since it doesnt matter anyway. Tongue
