bleh, that looks like crap because I accidentally saved it as a jpeg. Well you can still make out the colors and Dave will have an official map up soon.

Beshear should push up a couple of hundreths of a % with those precincts.  Oh well....  Hope I can win Mississippi.

Blank?  The map is all filled in, and there's even a link to the results page where you can view county results and whatnot.

I see the link, but it's still blank. The link has the numbers when you roll the mouse over them, but not the colors.

Now that I look in IE, you can see the colors. This is weird.

Strange, I'm using Firefox and the map looks fine to me.

It could be that your browser was seeing a cached version of the map - and didn't update when the colored map was created.  Usually a reload will force the image to be updated.

I'm more amazed that he won Leslie. Where Paul Patton came in third.

I'm not; Mongiardo was on the ticket.

Anyone else noticed the relatively small swing in Knott county? Most of the rest of Eastern coalfield swung savagely against Fletcher (as did the Western), but Beshear only did a few points better than Chandler in Knott.

What were the other statewide results in Kentucky?  I'm interested especially as State Auditor Crit Luallen is supposedly going to run against Mitch McConnell next year; I assume she must have won big last night alonsgide Beshear?

Luallen won by a landslide. The Democratic Attorney General candidate won by a landslide. Also I think the Democrats won Treasurer by a landslide.

Republican incumbents did win Agriculture Commissioner and Secretary of State, but the latter was by a pretty narrow margin considering the Democratic candidate was some little-known small-town mayor.

Found them:

GOVERNOR/LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR -
58.7% (D) Beshear/Mongiardo
41.3% (R) Fletcher/Rudolph

SECRETARY OF STATE -
57.1% (R) Grayson
42.9% (D) Hendrickson

ATTORNEY GENERAL -
60.5% (D) Conway
39.5% (R) Lee

AUDITOR OF PUBLIC ACCOUNTS -
59.2% (D) Luallen
40.8% (R) Greenwell

STATE TREASURER -
57.5% (D) Hollenbach
42.5% (R) Wheeler

COMMISSIONER OF AGRICULTURE -
64.0% (R) Farmer
36.0% (D) Williams

So in fact a Republican had the highest number of votes cast statewide in the election, with Richie Farmer re-elected with 64% of the vote as Commissioner of Agriculture.  The most popular Democrat was Attorney General Jack Conway who won with 60% of the vote.  Of the six statewide offices, going into the elections 3 were held by Republicans and 3 by Democrats.  The Democrats now hold a 4-2 advantage over the GOP with the defeat of Governor Ernie Fletcher.  State Auditor of Public Accounts Crit Luallen is reportedly going to challenge Mitch McConnell in 2008, according to https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=64643.0.

That's because the Democrat running against him was kind of a weirdo. Williams always runs for something every year and switches parties all the time. I voted for Williams just to bring down the Republicans.

Sounds like Greg Mikkelson here. In 2002 he ran the for House in MN-1 as the Green candidate. In 2004 he ran as the Independence Party candidate. In 2006 he ran as a Republican and challenged Gutknecht in the primary. I guess next year he'll run as a Democrat and challenge Walz in the primary just to complete the cycle.

Williams almost beat Peppy Martin in 1999. I don't know if he would have been any better or worse.

I also don't know how the GOP didn't end up with their old frequent candidates filling the ballot in 1999. From what i've noticed, Thurman Jerome Hamlin is still alive. Tommy Klein died in 1998. And the Republicans let 5 of 6 statewide races go unchallenged.

The Republicans had a short-lived lull in 1999 after the Newter grabbed his ball and went home and discredited themselves with the impeachment nonsense. I guess they figured there wasn't much point.

I posted county returns for the AgCom race on OurCampaigns

Farmer won 102 counties, Williams won 18 counties.

State race results from Elliott County

Governor: 1631-205 Beshear (89/11)
Sec of State: 1466-263 Hendrickson (85/15)
Att. Gen: 1543-192 Conway (89/11)
Auditor: 1553-259 Luallen (86/14)
Treasurer: 1524-215 Hollenbach (88/12)
Ag Comm: 1380-365 Williams (79/21)

In 2003, Elliott County percentages in the top five statewide races ranged from 86% for Jonathan Miller to 78% for Ben Chandler.
