I don't think anyone on the AF even noticed this race. I know I sure haven't.

From the (trashy and somewhat simpleminded) IndyStar

"Welcome to the biggest upset in Indiana political history," Republican mayoral candidate Greg Ballard told a jubilant crowd gathered tonight at the Murat Theatre.

Ballard said two-term Mayor Bart Peterson called to concede the race for the top job in Indianapolis at 10:21 p.m.

Ballard took the call from the two-term mayor in a hallway, then returned to share the news with his supporters.

"He told me, 'It appears to be over,' " Ballard said. "He congratulated me. He was very gracious. He was very nice."

Ballard, 52, is a former Marine Corps lieutenant colonel making his first run for office.

Odd.  When Indiana voters get angry, anything can happen.  Looks like they're still kind of angry.

Btw, I seem to remember Bart Peterson being called on by some people on this site to run against Mitch Daniels for Governor (which he refused).  I guess he can do it now.

After Peterson's crusade to censor video games, I have to say I am not a Peterson fan.

From what I heard, the GOP did pretty damn well all over Indiana last night.

Probably because of Bart Peterson's DLCism.

Then again, I didn't think Indiana had too many elections yesterday.

I'll gladly take the Mayorship of the City of Indianapolis over a few small towns.

Remember also that Indianapolis is run by the suburbs, as it's a consolidated city-county. So it's surprising it had a Democratic mayor to begin with.

Crivens, they are small as well

BTW, you can add Indianapolis City-County Council too. It's now Republicans 17 (+3); Democrats 12 (-3). Apparently, some pundits have described Ballard's win as the biggest political upset in Indiana's history. There seems to have been a big backlash against recent tax hikes

Carson is unbeatable though as long as her district stays within the hub of the city. I bet Bart Peterson actually carried Carson's district.

It would seem that the constituent parts of Marion County: Beech Grove, Indianapolis, Lawrence, Southport and Marion County elect their own mayors

http://www.in.gov/apps/sos/election/general/general2007?page=county&countyID=49&officeID=32&districtID=60&candidate=

And if Indianapolis is more or less the same as Carson's district, then Ballard won

Here is the link to all Indiana's Mayoral results:
