Has an Ex President Ever ran for Lower office?

I know of an ex-VP (Nixon) who ran for lower office (California Governor) when he was out of office. I can't think of any President that has done this.

How about John Quincy Adams? He served in the House of Representatives for 17 years after leaving the White House.

Andrew Johnson got to the Senate.

John Adams was a Massachusettes Elector in 1820.

James Monroe and James Madison held positions on the Virginia state Constitutional Convention.

John Tyler was elected to the Confederate Congress in 1861. He died before he served.

Van Buren served as a Presidential Elector and Free Soilm Candidate for President in 1848.

William Taft served as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

Herbert Hoover served on the European Relief Board, the Famine Commision, and the 1st and 2nd Hoover Commisions.
