States was one of the first people to say hi to me when I joined the forum. He and I had our disagreements, but we usually got along well.

Some of the past comments he has made regarding race specifically blacks and Mexicans would lead you to believe otherwise, also someone obsessed that much with the Confederacy and thinking slavery wasn't that bad is generally not someone who sees other races as equals.

Ditto. I never understood why some people had beef with him - sure, he said some pretty outrageous things, but most of them were just to get a reaction anyway. He had strong beliefs, but so what, by and large he treated you the same you treated him, and when it came down to it he was a southern gentleman through and through.

Not quite sure why I'm talking about him in the past tense, as if we were at a wake, but there you go. He'll be back.

That's too bad. He was better than most of the posters here. Even if I seldom agreed with him on...anything he was always interesting to talk to and had a lot of knowledge about history.
