Gov. Sarah Palin continues to be the most popular politician in the state, according to the latest poll by Hays Research Group.

The survey asked 400 Alaskans across the state how they felt about Palin, Sen. Stevens and Young.

Some 81 percent of respondents said they had a positive view of Palin compared to just 8 percent who said they had a negative view. More impressively, 54 percent said they had a “very positive” opinion of the governor.

The statewide phone poll was conducted between Nov. 9-12 — before the state Legislature approved Palin’s bill to increase taxes on the oil industry.

The poll claims 44 percent of those asked had a positive opinion of Stevens. Some 38 percent said they had a negative opinion of the senator, while 17 percent said they were neutral.

Nearly half (48 percent) of those asked said they had a negative opinion of Young, compared to the 34 percent who had a positive view. The percentage of responders who said they didn’t have an opinion on the state’s lone congressman either way was 16.

The poll has a margin of error of nearly 5 percent.

Uh, this poll would indicate to me that Young is in a lot of trouble and Stevens may be in trouble, but I can't count Stevens in any "trouble" column until he receives an actual Demcratic opponent (who is not a joke).  +6 approval is quite different than -14 approval in my book.

On the plus side for Dems, it looks like Young may still be strong enough to avoid being primaried.

Would you consider Mark Begich a strong candidate if he decides to enter the race?

I can't see Ted Stevens ever being defeated in Alaska, no matter how corrupt he is.

Don Young.....possibly but unlikely.

Strong for the Alaska Democratic party, which of course isn't saying much...  But yes, I would look at the race seriously if that were to happen (and a couple of other bad things were to happen to Stevens).
