The NSW Labor conference has voted to abolish the Socialist objective, to support a 50:50 caucus to membership method of electing the state party leader, and to reject John Faulkner's preselection reforms, thankfully.

Yes, it's horrible that local people should have any say in who represent them. Just as long as the SDA get to keep their power...

Please, as if good social conservatives are going to vote for a party which democratically elects people! Everyone knows that random union heads are far more accountable and appealing than the membership, ugh.

Is anybody but Hifly happy that Faulkner's reform failed?

The polls were tightening in Victoria and now Labor and Daniel Andrews are embroiled in a sandal. It would be hilarious if they lost an unloseable election.

Solopop in which electorate do you vote? Are you voting Labor?

I live in what used to be Doncaster and would have voted for Mary Wooldridge, but I got rezoned to Ringwood and am definitely voting for Labor.

Would one of the Australians explain us what happened?

Basically the former Premier was recorded having a justified but impolitic spray at the social conservatives in his party and those who removed a decent sitting Minister from her seat.

No one was exactly sure where these tapes came from etc etc... but it appears the Opposition at the very least had heard these tapes or as they're being called, 'recordings' but it's not known if they were the ones who leaked or facilitated the leak etc etc.

There are a lot of unanswered questions about their role in the affair.

Didn't a similar thing torpedo federal Labor in 2010?

Also people can't seriously be buying Tony's MH17 bullsh**t? I mean at first he appeared strong, now he looks desperate.

When rock-bottom is your starting point ... the view will be disproportionate to the effort. Doing. Something "good" will be seen as great. But he's no Howard and I'd be shocked if it went further than this.

Joe Hockey's life continues to be made miserable after yet another accusation of insensitivity to the poor.

It should be noted that in a presser today, Abbott essentially threw Hockey under the bus and Pyne has refused to endorse the position Hockey took.

The 'c-team' strikes again.

Australian politics is terrible because - er, Labor won't back their opponents, the coalition, in the Senate; Liberals and Labor use nasty words against each other; apparently as Labor have more Senate votes than Palmer the coalition should hook up with Labor not rely on Palmer & Co......

I don't know really. The criticism appears to be that Australian politics isn't dumbly bi-partisan after the American model, basically. This may have something to do with party members pre-select party candidates in the standard Anglosphere way rather than have anyone who cares to do it as in the US.

Australian politics have been like this for approx 90 years. British politics isn't that far off. Needless to say I don't care two straws for Liveris' stupid position.

From what I read before the pay-wall kicked-in (I refuse to pay for the Australian) showed that he has a pretty horrendous political knowledge.

Ah I see this isn't just the wish of the UK and Irish media (although I can't say I'm surprised).

To get around the pay wall, search the article name in Google and click the link from Google and it's free.

For Fairfax Media simply go to private browsing.

Just to add to the liveable and friendly accolades, Melbourne wins out as sleepiest city in the world...

...wait, that doesn't sound right. Maybe 'most well rested'?

It's easy to sleep when you're so self-satisfied Tongue

....

Liberals will not field candidates in Charlestown and Newcastle, some bs about a penance... when in reality it's about shielding themselves from two shocking by-election defeats that close to an election.

Any odds of them being sent in a 4-year long atonement next March?

I guess that creates an opening for independents to try to win the seats.
