I'm not talking about your personal opinion, but society as a whole.

Answer is actually marijuana for the most part, somewhat ironically. Smoking cigarettes will get you more disdain than smoking pot, including from myself. I actually know a huge pothead who hates cigarettes and thinks they are absolutely disgusting and gives the typical "only a f**king idiot would smoke" rants yet he pretty much spends his entire weekends stoned in his basement.

You can smoke a Cig outside of nearly any buisness establishment and only get a few dirty looks.  You light up a fatty in the same place and somebody will call the cops on you.  That might not be universally true in the US, but it is in 90% of the country.

Depends on what group we're talking about.

Smoking marijuana is still less socially acceptable around people nearing middle age.

Obviously Tobacco, unless you're under the age of about 25.

In a perfect world no one would want to smoke anything, period.

Obviously Tobacco, unless you're under the age of about 25.

Or among certain social circles (ie. Liberal, Urban and possibly full of aging hippies) then this is correctly correct. In Ireland at least.

Even under 25, I would still say tobacco. Marijuana is illegal, so smoking it in front of most people (except aging hippies and US Berkeley students), would be more shocking that tobacco.

When you get below 25, people tend to care a lot less about what they perceive as victimless crimes (and with some, even when crimes have a victim).

NDN was implying that tobacco is more shocking than marijuana among under 25s. My point is, that nothing is less shocking, among any age group, than tobacco.

Tobacco - marijuana smell carries a longer distance as well, probably adding to its dislike by many.
