More liberal, definitely.

Both my parents are in the far-right camp when it comes to social issues.

How about economic issues?

They're pretty far on the right there too. As best I can put it, they're very anti-politically correct. Opposing welfare, Affirmative Action and the like. But they do have some populist leanings. The biggest one being pro-union. On my mom's side of the family, there's lots of history with the Teamsters.

more liberal than both.

dad calls himself an independent.  but he is very conservative.  he is a free market kind of guy.   his economic views are quite libertarian.

mom is a republican and quite partisan.  she usually votes a straight ticket.  but she is a moderate.  she is certainly no right winger.

I am considerably less leftist, but probably marginally more socially liberal, though my parents are mainline socially liberal (support abortion and affirmative action as major issues, for example) whereas I am not. Ideologically, they're pretty much the same; I'd put them both at -4, -6.

I've always been impressed that they could be so leftist and have a substantial income. (I'll go no further than to say that they benefited a lot from Bush's tax cuts despite opposing them.)

My mom was a Farming Democrat turned Kennedy Democrat turned Reagan Republican.  My dad has always been kind of straight laced about everything including politics.  Overall I'm probably more "liberal" than my parents, I don't think victimless crimes are crimes and I'm against the Federal govt regulating social issues (whether that regulation comes from the left or the right) both of which my parents come down completely opposite of me.  My mom feels sorry for the poor more than me or my dad does.  We're all pro gun, but I'm MORE pro gun...whatever that means.  We all self identify as conservative though.

Judging it purely by our comparable voting records (elections and referenda), I'm to their left.

I think it's fair to say that I'm more liberal on social issues (especially criminal matters). Don't really know enough about their economic views to give a definitive answer on that.

Not really, since I am very fond of some Republicans like Warner and Specter, while they are generally negative towards all members of the GOP.

Thank God. More conservative than you would be almost off the charts.

Hard to tell. I'd say it varies a little from issue to issue, but overall about the same. I'm more pro-environment than my parents, especially compared to my dad. I'm probably more culturally conservative, actually, though not much. May be a bit to the left of them on the economy (I have a populist streak that especially my mum lacks). But no huge differences.

Yes. Yes. I think that this might, just about, win the coveted prize of "understatement of the year".

Uh, that's tricky...

On economic issues, I'm more conservative than my mom, but a bit more liberal/leftist than my dad, I guess.

On social issues, I think that I'm generally more libertarian than both of them. My dad's sort of a centrist here and my mom is a liberal, but with a pretty authoritarian streak... which means she wants to ban everything and everyone she doesn't like. I actually agree on most social issues with her, but  I don't want to ban anything. So, in political discussions with my mom I usually defend the right of conservatives to be stupid. Tongue

I'm more libertarian.

They're both Republicans. My dad is staunchly pro-military (which I am too), mainly due to being a Marine. He's more protectionist on the economy and thinks free trade is a sham, more an "America First" type.

Although he has become greatly upset with George W. Bush. He's in the "I wish there was someone else" mode right now and if there were a credible third-party candidate in the next election I get the sense he will vote for him.

My mom is a toned down version of those views I guess. I know she's Republican but don't really talk politics with her.

We all agree the Democrats are on another planet. Cheesy Although I was surprised that my dad told me he voted for Easley for governor.

I have no idea what my father's views are.... on anything, never mind politics.

My mother on the other hand was an ex-feminist sociology lecturer; so I can't really say with much certainly whether I am more liberal or conservative than her.

Hard to say--we are all quite liberal, though we have different points of emphasis. Maybe overall I'm slightly more liberal, but not by much.
