I see no reason why Humphrey would not win against Reagan in 1968.

In 1968, the nation was not ready to embrace Reagan's particular brand of conservatism.

Reagan had only been elected Governor of California in 1966, and the nation would have gone for the much more politically experienced Humphrey for President.

Hubert Horatio Humphrey realizes his lifelong dream of becoming President of the United States.

Humphrey/Smathers                271
Reagan/Rhodes                       222
Wallace/LeMay                          45

"Reagan who?" says the country.

Humphrey wins easily.

Is that the best you can do?  At least try to be smarter than a first grader.

They rejected Goldwater in '64, they would reject Reagan in '68. Not even close.

You would vote for Hitler over Chavez because you like Free Market economics, and you call Benacostine a hack. Are you mad?

Reagan lacked the political experience in '68, and was too conservative. Humphrey would have won.
