This is a joke, right? It's from the Enquirer.

I am kind of curious what the story is behind this. If there even is one...

For those who don't know, The Enquirer ran a story in October claiming that Edwards had / was having an extramarital affair, which got some attention on some blogs, but never really broke through into the MSM, unless you count The New York Daily News gossip section:

http://www.nydailynews.com/gossip/2007/11/29/2007-11-29_tabloids_affair_rumor_dispelled_says_joh.html

I assume this is some kind of follow up on that.

I really wanna have this conversation about marital fidelity.  Let's start with David Vitter, revisit Larry Craig, move on to Rudy Giuliani and fondly remember Newt Gingrich, Dan Burton, Bob Barr, Helen Chenoweth, Henry Hyde, Bob Livingston, Bob Packwood, Don Sherwood, Jim Bunn, Ken Calvert, Tim Hutchinson, Buzz Lukens and Ed Schrock.  Probably others I have forgotten.  Point being, even on the outside chance that Edwards is guilty of adultery...at what point do we concede the "moral high ground" on this issue to Republicans?

I doubt this is true, since I think Drudge had something about Kerry having an affair and nothing came of that.  But if it does turn out to be true and blows up in a huge scandel, I think it would ultimately help Obama since I think most Edwards voters would prefer him to Clinton.

F**king hell, are you telling me the National Enquirer is now regarded as a reliable news source?  I still reject the notion that people even read that piece of trash.

Yeah, this is the paper that had photos of Teresa Heinz Kerry, Laura Bush, and an alien (as in an extraterrestrial being) in a hottub together back in 2004.  And that regularly showcases flying cats and such wonders.

Not that I'm doubting you, but are you sure that was not Weekly World News or The Sun? The National Enquirer mainly deals with celebrity news and such. I remember reading an issue in 2005 where they claimed Ted Kennedy had a love child as well, and nothing came of that, so I doubt its true here either.

Also, anyone see the news story about Oprah on their website, how apparently Obama tore her and the man she’s dating apart? The people who run these magazines just grasp at staws and hope one of them sticks. Of course, everyonce in awhile they get something right, which is why people enjoy reading them.

The story has now mysteriously vanished from The Enquirer's website.  I guess it must not have met their high editorial standards.

(The original "Edwards is having an affair" story from October is still there however.)

Fox news, NewsMax and World Net daily are regarded by many as "reliable".  Why not this rag?

If true, it just shows how desperate Edwards is to out-Clinton Clinton.

In light of this rumor, was this really the best week for Newsweek to run this cover?:

Oh, god. Check out this headline from the U.K's Daily Mail:
"US presidential hopeful John Edwards denies cheating on dying wife ..."

If these rumors are true, Edwards should cross his fingers this woman is Hillary's paramour.

Is the Daily Mail part of Murdoch's media empire? If that's true, I offer my deepest apologies.
