Elite group formation and characteristics.

Basically, is the a "ruling class" and what does it look like?

The intertwining of religion and politics.

And I suppose the hypocrisy of it all.  I have a very idealistic view of how politics should be, but I am extremely cynical when considering how it really is.  I do enjoy tearing apart the proposals of Democrats, identifying which corporate interest bought them off, etc.  I don't enjoy doing this as much with Republicans since it seems so obvious.

My interest is also peaked in considering how certain policies will inadvertantly affect certain segments of society who others will often overlook (the poor, immigrants, drug users, etc.)

I also have an interest, although I don't display it anymore, in the day-to-day political happenings of states in the Southeast.

I don't watch any sports, so I like to think of politics as my sport.  Even though I don't trust a word anyone is saying, I find a lot of entertainment value in watching the back and forth between various candidates and all of the little sensibilities that people are going out of their way to pander to or otherwise not offend.

I don't find foreign policy to be particularly interesting, although I do have views on all of the relavant issues involved.

Political parties and political trends. Also the history of it all, but history is one of my favorite subjects anyway.

I actually like parties, geography, and get this, presidential losers.  I especially love Adlai Stevenson, William Jennings Bryan, Al Smith, Hubert Humphery, and James G. Blaine.

Political history in general, particularly election results and the circumstances behind them. I can't get enough of it.

And it has its uses. Impressing random strangers in an internet forum, for one. Or when I'm on a date and realise it's not going anywhere, so I decide I may as well freak her out by quoting random election results from the past, say, ooh, I dunno, the South Korean Presidential election of 1998, or eloquently delving into the reasons behind LBJ's 1964 landslide victory, just to see how long it is until she makes her excuses and leaves. WIN!

I like inter-party machinations. That works best in single-party states (I can't get enough of Kremlinology) or parliamentary democracies. There's not much of it in America.

Psephology and the work of the Boundary Commission.

At university I studied the European Policy Process which I have a strong knowledge in, but it's rather boring Smiley

I think that this is an element to elite group behavior and formation of political elites.

I'm also interested in legislative procedure.
