Giving in to the demands of terrorists is never a good idea.

That's a pity. I'm quite a fan of monarchy's, as long as they don't actually have any power or what not.

This was sort of a lose-lose situation. The king was definitely overstepping the line, but I'm not sure the elected government will fight the Maoist rebels, either.

The move was made to get the Maoists into government IIRC

Huh

It's too bad they couldn't keep the monarchy around as a tourist attraction like Great Britain.

Unfortunate... anyone supporting Mao should be lined up in the street and shot... and no I'm not joking.  50 million+ dead.

In Nepal the monarchy are the terrorists. Well, one group of them anyway.

Inevitable and relatively welcome, with the proviso that the democratic forces maintain control without the rebels.

Doesn't apply to Nepal, then.

No heir to the throne / prince / scion of a minor branch that would have been more acceptable?  Gyanendra had to go, understandably, but I'm surprised that they had to dump the entire monarchy.

Gyanendra's son would be even worse. We're talking the Nepalese Uday Hussein.
