We've probably been down this road a few times before, but since I have been away -- what's the Atlas CW on this?

Worst comes to worst- they will lose LA and gain VA and NM. (52 dems)

What will probably happen- The GOP will be shut out and the dems will win CO,NM,NH,VA (55 dems)

What COULD happen- The GOP gets shut out and the dems gain CO,NM,NH,VA,OR,MN,ME and AK. (59 dems)

If the dems net a loss in the house, or lose the senate and THE WH, I would say that they got wiped out, no matter how well they did at the roots.

I think that we'll hold LA, we'll get NM, CO, NH and VA and then take 3 of Alaska, Oregon, Minnesota, Kentucky, North Carolina, Maine, Texas and Oklahoma.

The Democrat party will do well all over the country whether people like it or not. They will probably win most Senate races except in really southern states.

I like my Democrat Senator (Cheryl Brown, I think?) but I also liked the Republican he beat (the Republican came to my town for an event and I met him with Michael Naso).

2) Republicans pickup Louisiana

Net +5 for Democrats

Don't forget the possibility of picking up the special election seat in MS!  There's just as good a shot of picking up this one as picking up Alaska...

We do have a scandal brewing in Mississippi with Dickie Scrugg's arrest, we're just not sure which (if any) politicians involved.
In Mississippi, we probably have former Gov. Ronnie Musgrove.

Mississippi is so far south that Democrats don't stand much of a chance anymore.

Yeah, although maybe a really conservative democrat might have a chance, it's best to look at places like Virginia, where the GOP base can be eroded.

Democrats don't stand a chance there. You guys said they wanted to run Michael Moore, right? People hate him and the movies so why wouldn't they hate him and his type in the south? They'd get maybe 15% of the vote.

Democratic pickups, NH, CO, NM, and VA. Also possibly OR and with AK if the Democrats couldn't win there in 2004 what makes anyone think they can in 2008 even with all the scandals that are plaguing Stevens?

Republican pickups, Possibly LA?

2004 was a very good year for Republicans and Murkowski was saved only by Bush's 61%-38% margin.

Hmm... I was forgetting about Alaska. Might be too early to say anything there, though, what with primaries and no major Democratic candidate (read: Begich) actually declared yet.

I like my Democrat Senator (Cheryl Brown, I think?)

lol.  His name is Sherrod.  I'm hoping you at least knew our newly elected Senator is a guy.

As for net gains I'm think 3-4 so I voted 1-3 to be on the safe side.

I don't care what the gender Senator Brown is and it shouldn't matter to anyone anyway.

Begich is waiting till the filing deadline to announce his run. My source in Alaska (a friend at the AK Democratic Party) says the Mayor is concerned Stevens will drop out at the last minute, only to be replaced by the popular reformer Governor Sarah Pallin.

It makes no sense Palin would leave Juneau for Washington.
