...

Is it that hard for people to accept that sometimes questions are dichotomous and answer which of the two choices is preferable even if there would have been a better solution not offered in the question?

Obviously the junta.  My gosh people, its not even all that extreme a case of 'human rights abuse' compared to plenty of US allies.  The only reason its focused upon so much is it is an enemy of the US, and a satellite of our competitor China.

You're farking hilarious man.  I'm starting to think you're actually a hard core conservative just playing the role of a leftist in a cartoony way.  Either way your posts always give me a chuckle, thanks brother.

I'm absolutely serious, dead.  Please explain to me in what way the Burmese junta violates 'human rights' more than Saudi Arabia, for example.

It's not.  I've said hundreds of times in my life (and several here I think) that we shouldn't do buisness with countries that don't gauruntee a specific set of human rights for ALL there people (including women and those not practicing the state religion).  But the question in the OP wasn't 'who's worse, Burma or America's worst human rights abusing allie?'.  It was 'would Burma be better today if Brit rule had stayed?'.

It's not as if anything changed between the two, except of course the racial origin of the gin-and-tonic-quaffing crumpet-munching mass-murdering-peasants-for-breakfast posh colonel in charge.

Just because Saudi Arabia does it, doesn't mean Burma's entitled to. A major human rights abuse is a major human rights abuse wherever it takes place.

Yes. Actually, this would be a good discussion amongst the people of Burma. What do they think?

Of course, neither is Saudi Arabia entitled to it.

What was British colonial rule like in Burma anyway?

No, but I get the impression from Wikipedia that it wasn't that nice in Burma.

One of course doesn't justify the other.

Sure, the British Colonial Rule was about as bad, if not worse, than the Junta is.

That said, if the Brits were still in control NOW their situation would be far better than it is atm, because the Brits would be far more responsible than they were at the time.
