How would the 1948 Presidential Election turn out if these were the two tickets?

Republican

President: Governor Earl Warren of California
Vice President: General Douglas MacArthur of Wisconsin

Democratic

President: Senator Scott Lucas of Illinois
Vice President: Senator Richard Russell of Georgia

NOTE: Strom Thurmond declines to run as a Dixiecrat due to Senator Scott's selection of Senator Richard Russell of Georgia as his running mate. Former Vice President Henry Wallace of Iowa decides not to run for President at all.

And yes, I do know that this would be an unplausible scenario for the 1948 Presidential Election. I just wanted to see your thoughts on a possible campaign between Governor Warren and Senator Lucas.

Discuss with maps.

After 16 straight years of Democratic administrations, I see no reason why the successful and high profile Governor of California, with the war hero MacArthur by his side, would not handily defeat the rather obscure Senator from Illinois and the well respected, though segregationist, Senator from Georgia.

Warren would very likely sweep the plains, mountain, southwest, and western states, as well as realize a huge success in the northeast and the midwest.

The Democrats would continue to have a stranglehold on the south.
