On the democratic side, Hillary Clinton is nominated for President and she selects Tom Vilsack of Iowa as her running mate.

On the republican side, John McCain is nominated for President and he selects Gordon Smith of Oregon as his running mate.

There is no independent candidacy.

How does this election go? Discuss with maps.

Oh, you democratic hack. Probably did not look at the tickets, just knew right off the bat that you were going to make it a democratic victory.

I did indeed look at the tickets.  I assume you think that Smith will swing Oregon?

For the last time, Gordon Smith, Susan Collins, Norm Coleman, and John Sununu are not going to be VP picks.

The GOP would never risk losing Smith's Senate seat.

Nice to know that I'm not the anyone one who realizes that.

Normally I would agree with this sentiment, but gporter you are being a hack in this instance.  A small Hillary victory is not unlikely at all.

Actually that isn't a Democratic victory. It's an 8 Electoral Vote victory for the Republican ticket of John McCain and Gordon Smith. You should learn how to count.

And I agree with what Joe McBloomberg stated earlier:

For the last time, Gordon Smith, Susan Collins, Norm Coleman, and John Sununu are not going to be VP picks.

i think gordon smith won't be the vp.

and yes new mexico will be the key-state in this scenario.

may be the the dems would be better off with richardson as vp,. because clinton can carry iowa on her own, but maybe not nm.

Senator Hillary Clinton/Former Governor Tom Vilsack (D): 286 Electoral Votes

Senator John McCain/Senator Gordon Smith (R): 252 Electoral Votes

I think the Election will come down to Ohio and New Mexico and their combined 25 Electoral Votes. Hillary will pull off a narrow, narrow victory in both Ohio and New Mexico over Senator McCain and will become 44th President of the United States.

Especially with McCain at the top.  They MIGHT be with a far right conservative at the top.  But I doubt even that.

Auctually, you need to learn to count. Put that map through the electoral calculator and you will find that it comes up with the following result:

Clinton/Vilsack: 270 electoral votes
McCain/Smith:   268 electoral votes

Like I said before, you need to learn to count.

And you need to read all the posts before posting:

McCain/Smith wins.  And yes, I do think Gordon Smith might be enough to swing Oregon.  But no, I don't imagine the GOP would ever risk losing his seat.

I don't think Hillary is popular at all in Arkansas.  Especially without Wes Clark (another Arkansan) on the ticket.

I'm not sure McCain wins Ohio, but I am equally unsure about Hillary's chances in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin or Iowa.

Face it.  With some of these states, especially Nevada, New Mexico, Iowa and Wisconsin, we're dealing with extremely narrow margins from the last couple of elections.

With a 52% approval rating?

I don't think Hillary is popular at all in Arkansas.

Then why does she lead there by wider margins than any other state polled, including Massachusetts?

Aren't those intra-party polls?  Arkansas is pretty Bible belt.  And there's no hatred like a Talibagelical's hatred for the Clintons.

Hey -- I hope you're right.  Though I'm no fan of Hillary or Bill, I'd much rather have them running this show than any of the current crop of Republicans.

The GE polls: https://uselectionatlas.org/POLLS/PRESIDENT/2008/polls.php

Or check this out: https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=65301.0

She leads McCain by 28 points!

Arkansas is the exception to that, being the state the Clintons came from, and they are still from.

I don't like Hillary, but there is simply no weight whatsoever to claiming she is not popular in Arkansas.

There's no evidence to the contrary. Hillary dominates in all polls in Arkansas. I can understand why right wingers are in delusion about this, but I don't understand why so many Democrats can't accept it.

It could be we give far too much credit to the bloviations of right wing punditry.  I know I often make that mistake.  Living in one of the most far-right, conservative parts of the country NOT in the South, I sometimes start believing everyone thinks as Rush Limbaugh does.

That's one reason I come to these forums:  To get my head straight.  (Sometimes, it works!)

At least your start tossed out three incumbent Republican Congressmen last year.
