I don't see what's so great about the metric system. For scientific use it makes much more sense of course, but for personal use, the things its based on are irrelevant. When you're driving from Point A to Point B, do you care how that distance relates to the Earth's circumference? It's also impressive how everything correlates and the gram is based on a cubic centimeter of water and a milliliter is a cubic centimeter, but why do those figures matter to an average person?

The only real advantage I see is synchronicity with the rest of the world, but I doubt that's worth the multi-million if not billion price tag switching would cost, not to mention the extreme lack of resistance to switching from the general public who simply can't start thinking of things in metric terms, I know I'm probably always going to think of the distance I travel between various cities in miles no matter what the "official" designation is...

Depends what you're doing, doesn't it? In some cases (measuring small things with accuracy) metric makes sense. Other things not so much. But why not pick and choose?

I'm thinking in terms of things like road signs and speed limits where the biggest change would be.
