That's one more seat where the NRCC wouldn't have to play defense.

Apparently, Doolittle's people are still denying that he's retiring (without referencing this article), but with only $38,000 in the bank, you know what I suspect...

He's running for President?

Duncan Hunter is already filling that quotient.

Even if he does retire this seat is still another thorn in the elephant's foot simply because it adds to the long list of open seats the GOP is already trying to defend.  Granted it will be easier for them to maintain their hold here without Doolittle on the ticket but its still going to be a bigger pain than it should be.

Safe GOP unless the primary turns really mean.

Doolittle has scheduled a press conference for this morning...

I still think Charlie Brown will do pretty well here in the general - enough people know him and may be willing to vote for him regardless of Doolittle to punish the GOP.  I'll predict he'll still get around 45% of the vote in CA-4.

And so finally, the two symbols of the Republican Congress - Delay and Doolittle, are finally no more!  Democracy works!

Doolittle's retiring, but he will be staying on until the end of the session.

This seat just fell way down the DCCC's target board.

This is probably a mixed blessing for Democrats.  If they had picked up this seat in 2008, they would have almost certainly lost it in 2010.

Yeah, this seat would definitely have fallen into the fluke column. The DCCC would've spent millions just to see Rico Oller beat Charlie Brown. A long-term Democratic majority in the House is not going to be built on R+11 seats.
