Clinton: Stay in the Senate, possibly run in 2012 if Obama loses, but unlikely.  Maybe Senate Majority Leader.
Edwards: Hmm, start a PAC, maybe go back to law, help the poor.

Romney: Insurance salesman
Giuliani: Secretary of Homeland Security
Huckabee: VP candidate, if not that then possible run for Senate
Paul: Hopefully goes and crawls in a ditch

Clinton - Stays in Senate, wouldn't be surprised if she makes another run at the Presidency
Edwards - Goes back and practices law or starts a foundation to help the poor. He's young though - this won't be the last we've heard of Edwards

Romney - Private sector
Giuliani - Law practice
Huckabee - Might run for a Senate seat, but I doubt it. Probably hit the lecture circuit and run again in 2012
Paul - Stays in Congress for a few more terms

Ron Paul may move to New Hampshire, declare himself King, and proceed to have it secede from the union to form a UN, IRS, CIA and DHHS-free republic.

Hillary Clinton - She stays in the Senate, re-elected in 2012 and possibly in 2018. Potential candidate for Senate Majority Leader, if or when Harry Reid decides to go.

John Edwards - Could be Attorney-General in an Obama Administration. If not, Johnny Reid either goes back into Law or forms an Anti-Poverty group or a Group denouncing Corporations. Who knows?

Mitt Romney - Goes back into the Corporate world, continues to add to his growing fortune.

Rudy Giuliani - He's safest option is the go back to being a Lawyer. He was good at bringing down key members of the New York Mob.

Mike Huckabee - Runs for the Senate in 2010 or 2012. But if he does run for the Senate that would rule him out for the Presidency in 2012, so he could possibly run in 2016 when he's only 61. Or he becomes a lecturer touring the country.

Ron Paul - President of Stormfront. If there's such a position.

Romney - Go on a cruise.
Giuliani - Goes back to New York and maybe runs for Governor in 2010.
Huckabee - Arkanas Senate.
Paul - Disappears up his own backside.

Romney-Runs again in 2012
Huckabee-Runs again in 2012

I agree.  I think both of them would try one more time in 2012, assuming the Dems win the White House this year.  As we saw in the 2008 cycle, the presidential primary polling starts absurdly early (yes, there will be some 2012 polls in 2009, just one year from now).  And with the bizarre way this works, name recognition means that you show up on top of the early polls, which causes pundits to declare you a top tier candidate.  So while Huckabee and Romney started out with low name recognition this time around, they'd now have high name recognition for next time, which means that they might think they'll have a good chance to win.  Of course, being ahead in those super-early polls doesn't mean you're going to win, but it doesn't hurt.

Clinton:  goes back to the Senate.  Should Obama lose, she may consider running again in 2012 if there are no other obvious candidates by then.  Otherwise, probably runs again in 2012 (for Senate), does not run for a fourth term (by which point she'd be 71), and enjoys retirement.

Edwards:  Unless he's VP (unlikely), goes back to being a lawyer.

Romney:  makes more money.  Slight possibility of moving to Michigan & running for Gov. in 2010 (esp. if he wins the MI primary).
Giuliani:  consulting.
Huckabee: if he doesn't get swept on Super Tuesday (& Republicans lose the general), runs again in 2012.  Otherwise, runs for Senate, or maybe takes up a position in academia or in the clergy again.
Paul:  He's not running for re-election to Congress, right?  Probably remains as an activist?  Not sure.

We have a winner.

This guy, after losing the race, will be set up as Pastor of the fundamentalist mega-church of his choice.  He'll be on TV, on the radio and writing books that will rival the sales of Rick Warren's and James Dobson's.

Huckabee is the new face of the religious right.  Kinder and gentler on the outside.  On the inside, full of rotting, putrid flesh.

Paul has filed to run for re-election to his House seat and has 2 (I think) primary challengers.
