What election before your time would you have liked to watch the most?

My personal pick would probably be 1824.

1928. I would love to have seen my hero Herbert Hoover win in a landslide. Al Smith was a good guy, but he never stood a chance against "Mistuh Marvel" as Calvin Coolidge called Herbert Hoover.

Yes.

But he was charismatic and flamboyant. Smith would always wear a durbey hat and a colorful tie and he always had a huge cigar in his mouth. Smiley

1960 (I wish the results were different but it was a very interesting race. One of the best)

(Happy 2000th post to me!)

Agreed, 1960. So extremely close, nearly in all states. A 5% shift would have resulted in a landslide for either candidate.

1960, the best democratic candidate of the past half century (if not ever) won.

By seen, I'm interepreting as wasn't on TV or even radio, so I'll go with 1800. That was a very intersting time period in American politics.

I would have liked to have seen all of them actually Smiley, there were so many good ones

I would like to have seen 1852 and 1924 so I could see my two favorite presidents get elected

Or 1972 for the Hospers/Nathan vote at the end

Or any election with William Jennings Bryan, Theodore Roosevelt, Andrew Jackson, or other powerful personalities

And of course standard exciting elections like 1824, 1876, 1912, 1948, 1960 etc.

1960.  That would have been a nail-biter for sure.

It was probably the last election where there was no huge regional split (except in New England and the Deep South).

1860

Me too.

Although, without a doubt, the most thrilling US election of all time was 2000.  I'm glad I was around for that one. Smiley

1896 - I would have liked to have seen The Commoner battle against the money and propoganda of the Hanna organization.

1968 - Hubert H. Humphrey waging an uphill battle against overwhelming odds would have been even better if he had won.
