I'm not sure about McCain's fitness. Is he mentally ready to be Commander in Chief? While I admire his courageous support for a carbon cap and trade system, I have some deep worries about his bellicose streak. His recent comments on Iran are alarming, too.

What exactly have you heard him say about Iran? Do you think McCain could start a draft?
I find McCain's "bomb Iran" remarks and his insistence that a "military option be kept" a little unnerving...

While I like McCain personally, his stance on the war downright scares me

Hillary Clinton supported the war with a failed strategy, and then supports us leaving in shame and defeat.

John McCain supported the war, criticized the strategy, and made the President change the strategy to something much more successful.

Hilllary Clinton's stance on the war scares me.

I never said I liked Clinton's position on the war (I'm an Obama supporter, and this is one of just many reasons), but I'd rather we get out now or a year from now or two years from now than get out even later with far more deaths. Not to mention all of the money we're spending that could go to better uses (and one of those could be tax cuts if you want, I'd rather have that than wasting it in Iraq).

I don't agree with the idea that leaving now would be shameful; there's more shame in continuing on a failed path than there is in admitting a mistake and making the best of a bad situation.

I do respect the fact that McCain was right on the war militarily long before Bush was. I'd definitely feel better about McCain as President than I do about Bush (on the war and many other issues as well), but just because he's a more competent warmonger doesn't really make me sleep that much better at night.

Not that I really care about this, but in actual practice, once in the White House, I doubt Hillary does anything much different than McCain in terms of Iraq or world foreign policy.  It'll just be neo-liberalism vs. neo-conservatism, which are really two peas in a pod, when you get down to it.

I'd prefer Nixonian realism, but we're not going to get that.
Neo-Liberalism focuses more on people and good diplomacy, while neo-conservatism is much more agressive and jingoistic.
I actually like Neo-Liberalism a little, but I despise neo-conservatism.

Neo-liberalism and neo-conservatism are not opposed. One can be both.

I can only hope the latter statement was a joke...

They see what the media tells them about him. The media doesn't go around saying "John McCain, son and grandson of 2 powerful 4 star admirals, cheated on his first wife with someone 17 years younger than himself, was involved in the Keating Five scandal, said he was against torture when he got through a pro-torture bill, has sucked up to Bush, and wants to stay in Iraq for 100 years". No, the media says "John McCain is a honest, good, experienced veteran".

Well I am Neo-Liberal on foriegn policy, just not on trade. One could even call me Neo-Socialist, because I want to be friends with all Democracies, even if they are Socialist in nature.(Venezuela, Bolivia etc.)

You could argue that Bush is both.

Glad to see you coming around. I don't get what Democrats are seeing in McCain again, it's not 8 years ago and everyone hated him a year ago. I've never gotten the revived love for McCain.

You underestimate the power of the media and overestimate the intelligence of a lot of voters at your own peril.

Indeed. Now, when can we start blabbing about a conservative media?

As soon as the media says that it's OK.
