I still don't get it. The guy has some wonderful ideas (like his National Intiative) and isn't afraid to speak truth to power. They could have at least made some room for the brillant figure in the debates.

Why does America love being lied to so damn much?

He speaks the truth, and quite honestly he is too radical and old for politics. I agree with most the stuff he says but he is too frank, and that never wins votes. It sucks, but it is true.

The people are afraid of the truth.

And perhaps also afraid that Mike Gravel will stare at them for two minutes and then throw a rock into a lake.

Maybe because he was AWOL for 30 years and then randomly decided to run for president.

The way he conducts himself just makes him look crazy. If he acted and talked like Clinton or Obama or Edwards things may have been different, but because he sort of reminded everyone of that crazy man down on 5th Street with all the cats, people didn't really pay him much mind. He sounded particularly crazy in that opening debate appearance.

In order for someone to consider supporting you, first they've got to let you in the door so you can convince them. No one in America was willing to let this guy in the door.

If that were the case, McCain wouldnt be getting the attention that hes getting now. People just dont really know who Gravel is....and when they first see him their first impression is hes an old angry democrat from Alaska yelling at everyone.

So? It doesn't change the fact that he has some great, innovative ideas and it doesn't change the fact that he is an omega level FF.

He's a nutcase. He has good ideas, but that doesn't reduce the level of nuttery.

He should have ran for President in 1972 with his current persona. He would have made a far more entertaining nominee than McGovern.

Would probably have done a little better as well.

He was actually seriously considered by McGovern to be his VP IIRC. (And finished Third in the VP nomination vote, as it was back then.)

Because.... Good lord just because.

You don't vote for someone just because you like what they say... he wouldn't have a hope in hell unless it was 1924 or 1972.

I don't support him because he wants to abolish the Federal Income Tax and replace it with a 23% National Sales Tax (Huckabee also wants to do this). This is an awful idea. Taxes should be progressive, and not punish poor people, which is what the (un)Fair Tax would do.

Changed because I forgot to put "don't" as the second word.

Sorry 1924 was a typo... but it's interesting to see the guesses of what I actually meant.
