Why is everyone here, on the forum at school? Are you on break or something?

The only problem I've ever had with other people's sigs was a couple years ago when I accessed the forum at a library and Killer Polo (a poster of the Mexican Persuasion) had a picture of girls in bikinis. I was very embarassed when the Library director walked by my computer.

Josh's signature was fairly disturbing (I'm not used to that sort of thing), and Vander Blubb's doesn't really accomplish aything, in my opinion.

Most Muslim cultures have a long history of tolerating homoeroticism. Its mainly because of the strict gender segregation that keeps men and women far apart unless they are married. Its situational, not biological. So don't pretend you have no idea whats going on.

I mean, why do three of the men have to be shirtless and all have to be well built or whatever. IMHO, that hurts the "gay rights" message, at least for me. Makes it too sexual.

Because thats the only difference between gays and straights! Without sexuality, we're exactly the same as you. Would you rather the men in that photo be wearing suits and ties? Its more of a political statement than erotic art.

I like his picture because men from the World War II era were extremely homophobic. So an interesting way to counter their bigotry is to imitate raising the flag on Iwo Jima. Maybe you have to be gay to understand why Josh's current sig is so revolutionary, living in a straight world as we do.

Well, I am gay, more or less. Women are very attractive specimens but I will fully admit I’m more inclined to like my fellow males, if only for the emotional connection. And you raise a good point I guess. I just get sick of seeing all the “gay pride” stuff that needlessly sexualizes the movement. I mean, look at the gay pride parades and the [to me] disgraceful behavior that goes on there. Way to give the religious right ammunition. But I think I’m just sensitive to gays acting promiscuous. I mean straight people, I don’t really care if they act slutty or whatever, but when I see a gay person acting that way and flanting their stuff, so to speak, I’m kind of ashamed and think their basically confirming to the stereotypes straights often have of us. Completely irrational and biased view, I’m sure, but meh.

But anyway, you do make sense. The picture’s not that bad, though I wish it was not so focused on the men’s bodies, but whatever, it‘s not a big issue.

I feel the same way, I just really liked the picture and what it stands for.

On the rare occasions when I'm viewing the forum in a public place, I honestly could not care less what other people think I'm looking at.  If they think it's gay porn, then more fool them.

Well, yeah, I'm not complaining too much, but not to be a capitulator to peer pressure, but that attitude doesn't really fly in high school.

It's kind of a pain in the ass to re-enable them at home, because I like seeing 95% of them.

Seriously though, if someone happened to walk by and see a sig like Josh's, who would care?  You could easily explain that it's someone's sig on a message board and that should be it.  Like I seriously doubt Sensei "sure had some explaining to do" to his girlfriend...unless she's a psychotic bitch or something, she can easily understand what a sig is.

True, but thats because India and Bangladesh adopted Britain's Victorian morals during the colonial era and have never abandoned them. The same is true with other former British colonies like Jamaica.

He's pretty much talking historically (Siwa, the Ottoman Empire, etc.), and I doubt it was ever very tolerated in the subcontinent, where even the Muslim areas were always more Indian in culture than Muslim in culture.

Yeah. I just overreacted because to me, having a gay rights symbol in a sexualized picture is just… demeaning. Imagine if you saw a picture of a scantily clad women and in the background there was like a feminist symbol, or saw a picture of like some gangbanger and in the picture there was like text that said “black pride.” Both of those things just seem to weaken their respective movements, and I think the same of a picture of sexualized gay men with the gay pride symbol in the picture is just as demeaning and does not reflect the true nature and goal of the movement. I don’t have a problem with sexualized pictures of men or women, if they are just like stand alone.

But I’m somewhat of a prude, ha ha, and I realize that not every gay men has the same set of values that I do. If the picture works for Josh and represents pride to him, well then, that’s all that matters.
