I just got an e-mail from the Obama campaign today in which he put forth the following as proof that his "new coaltion of voters" was working:

    * 55% of the total vote, more than twice as many votes as any other candidate
    * 57% of voters who had never voted in a primary
    * 66% of voters who had never voted before at all
    * Every type of community -- urban, suburban, and rural
    * 58% of voters between ages 18 and 64
    * 67% of voters between ages 18 and 29

I thought the stats about people who never voted before were very interesting but I suspect they mostly speak to his popularity among young people who may not have been eligible to vote in previous elections.

The Obama campaign is pretty savvy. I like their website a lot. The style and the information is all top notch. The other interesting thing is that this sort of data is well received among the more data conscious youth that Obama tries to reach.  Things like usage stats on a site and such that providers like Google offer to webmasters are very familiar.  I don't think this sort of cold information would do much for the elderly voters Hillary attracts.
