No big surprise, but nice to see. This is the newspaper of NorCal, more or less. (The Sacramento Bee has a fairly substantial readership, but the Sacramento suburbs are pretty heavily Republican.)

With any luck it'll be reflected in high dem turnout in the bay area, also it might reflect that the Dem is alienated by the tone of the Clinton campaign over the last few weeks.

How will he not do very well?

- High-income
- High-education
- The College students (assuming they bother to turn out)
- The AA community in Oakland.

Everything goes in his favour.

I just browsed through the California newspapers I could think of, and here are the endorsements I could find:

The Sacramento Bee, Modesto Bee, Santa Rosa Press-Democrat, Stockton Record, Santa Cruz Sentinel, and San Jose Mercury News also endorsed Obama.  The Fresno Bee endorsed Edwards.  The Bakersfield Californian endorsed Clinton.

Pretty much universal endorsement of McCain on the Republican side, but that's to be expected as every major California daily leans to the left.  I don't know how much it all matters, anyway, since I don't newspaper endorsements really have much of an impact.

Therein lies the challenge.

The Philadelphia Inquirer endorsed Clinton (and McCain).
