1. tax cuts
2. free trade
3. privatize as much as possible

sadly, a lot of republicnas are deviating from those 3 things.

if you take away those 3 things, all you have is a party full of self righteous people who are quick to impose their morals on others.  not to mention their penchant for whining when things dont go their way.

not trying to offend anyone, im just venting my frustrations with the party.

Democrats are just as good for free trade, and for whining when things don't go their way.

The main use for Republicans is to keep the radical social agenda of the Democrats in check.

For me to exercise my laughing muscles when they lose the election.

The Republican party aint perfect, but it protects:

-the right to keep and bear arm.
-against outright socialism.
-Us from becoming france.
-Us from becoming weaklings.
-Us from having even MORE loose-constructionist judges.
-Or attempts to protect the unborn.

As are *real conservatives*.

Afleitch put an interesting comment down along these lines in another thread.  I keep saying we divide along strange lines in this country.  I think you see exactly what I mean.

I think the best raison d'etre for the GOP is still their ability to say "I'm an American and I'm goddamned well proud of it and the USA is the greatest country in the world."  There's a time and a place for that attitude.  And a time and a place for putting the ultranationalists in their place.  And I believe US voters are pretty good at choosing when it's the right time for either.  This is why Clinton won in 1992 and 1996, and why Bush won in 2000 and has a realistic shot in 2004 (all the broken promises and civil liberty intrusions notwithstanding).

It is clear that there's no underlying "conservative" or "liberal" philosophy in either party.  This is one reason I have a grudging respect for Socialists and for Libertarians, who represent the real Left and the real Right, respectively.  Too much so for most peoples' tastes, as I understand it.

Perpetuating big government by claiming that they will reduce the size of government and then doing the opposite when lamentably gullible voters elect them.

Kill the Poor! - Dead Kennedys

"Kill The Poor"

Efficiency and progress is ours once more
Now that we have the Neutron bomb
It's nice and quick and clean and gets things done
Away with excess enemy
But no less value to property
No sense in war but perfect sense at home:

The sun beams down on a brand new day
No more welfare tax to pay
Unsightly slums gone up in flashing light
Jobless millions whisked away
At last we have more room to play
All systems go to kill the poor tonight

Gonna
Kill kill kill kill Kill the poor:Tonight

Behold the sparkle of champagne
The crime rate's gone
Feel free again
O' life's a dream with you, Miss Lily White
Jane Fonda on the screen today
Convinced the liberals it's okay
So let's get dressed and dance away the night

While they:
Kill kill kill kill Kill the poor:Tonight

uhm, giving Democrats something to complain about.  Praying to the ghost of Ronald Reagan.  Trying to find a cure for gay.  Running up the federal deficit.  For starters...

yup, but most vote anti-incumbent or democrat; in this election it was unfortunately both, and the split wasn't big enough Tongue

The only issue WalterMitty agrees with Democrats on from what I can tell is gay marriage, and that's only if you accept the position that Democrats are for gay marriage, which they don't.

And yes, opebtroll does like to whine about the breakdown in personal freedoms, despite the obvious and objective fact that none have been lost in well over 200 years except the freedom to discriminate freely in business (thanks to Democrats), the freedom to buy a pack of cigarettes without getting taxed to hell (thanks to Democrats), and the freedom to smoke in privately owned restaurantes (yes, also thanks to Democrats). Oh, and bans on fireworks, thanks to Democrats, and the freedom to do what you want with your property, thanks to Democrats.

Notice it's always Democrats who want to force their morals on other people. Kind of like opebtroll.

He's opposed to the death penalty, like all good men.
AH, sorry - you're right. That's not official Democratic party policy. Angry
