With the Democratic race still very much in doubt and probably at least a month or two or longer away from being decided and the Republican race pretty much over, will that give John McCain more of an edge come November?

Possibly. He can't attack the Democratic nominee until the nominee is known, however, and honestly the months of campaigning mean nothing until at least August (much as both nomination races changed dramatically in the last couple of months).
