I would like to introduce a bill in this Northeast Legislature that covers the election problem we may have come later this month. If Governor Andrew wins his senate seat we have a problem. Though Seige is our Lt. Governor,we have nothing in our constitution that clearly states any solution.

I would like to propose the following remedy.

Upon the resignation or removal of the governor, the Lt, Governor shall take his posistion and title as the Rt. Honorable governor for the remainder of previous governor's term.

Can you introduce bills to the Northeast or just propose?

A Bill requires 1 other legislator before the bill is introduced.

Has the Governor declared candidacy in the Senate race?  If he did, I must have missed that.

No he has not. He started a rumor about a possible run but did not officially announce.

While you might be right that nothing specifically says that the Lt. Gov becomes Gov. if the current one resigns, I think it's fair to say that everyone already knows that.

Justin, I have not seen an official statement from Governor .Andrew regarding a run for Senate. Yes he has hinted at it but he has not announced. Maybe you saw something everyone else has missed? If so, please post that information.

Sure everyone knows that if the Gov. resigns, the Lt. Gov. takes over but we should make it official (just in case, for some reason, someone challenges the system). Let the debate begin.

I am in favor of this bill. Not only will we have a legal way to decide who replaces the governor but It also gives the Legislature (the People) the right to hold a motion of confidence in the legislature (the People). This will force the incoming governor from pushing down bills down the throat of the people just after assuming power. It forces the new governor to tread lightly or force the wrath of the legislature. It also will be a litmus test to see if the new governor is capable of running this region. We want to avoid the possiblity of another Dan Quayle who miught assume power.

I urge my fellow members of this great legislature to vote yes on this bill so we can establish both an act of succession. It will also  give the legislature the right to decide if the new governor is competant enough to continue leading this region or is leading it in the right direction.

I personally think this bill is a little useless.

Firstly, even if I fill the role of Lt. Gov. that means that I automatically replace .Andrew if/when he decides to remove himself.

Secondly, .Andrew and I are currently Co-Governors, meaning that if he resigns there still is a Governor in place.

Thirdly, I don't know if I'm being paranoid, but this is the third or fourth legislation Justin has proposed to try to give the people of the region the power to throw me, or .Andrew, or whatever sitting Governor out.

Just because I'm a socialist doesn't mean I'm a bomb throwing communist. I'm not going to ruin the Region so I don't think there has to be such hesitation.

The majority elects the Governor, therefore it is an expression of trust in his/her capability, therefore as a choice they must live with.

Actually this is the second bill. This bill serves to establish an action of sucession which is clearly not in the constition. It also gives the people the right to hold a special election if they feel that LT. does not carry the confidence of the legislature.

I think that with Andrew's announcement this bill becomes more important.

I oppose this.  The Lt. Gov should not have to submit to a vote of confidence for him to take the position that he is entitled to if the Governor resigns.  While I did not vote for Siege, and I disagree with him on pretty much every position, I repect the fact that he has earned the right to hold his position and see no reason why he shouldn't become our Governor for the remainder of the term.

It is the Lt.Governors job to take office if the Governor left, same thing with a Co-Governor.
