I didn't read this thread, but Miami would be a pretty tight place to live for a few years if I wanted to learn Spanish.

I can't think of anything that would make me want to live in Florida as opposed to Iowa.

Culture?

Iowa is one of the oldest states in the country so that's not an excuse either

Florida, at least my mom would be less likely to flesh me for it.

In the south, adults skin their children if they move north of the Mason Dixon Line.  I know it seems weird, but these are the same people that catch Cat Fish with their bare hands and eat the entrails of common farm animals.  They are proud of these things.

Culture?

Iowa is one of the oldest states in the country so that's not an excuse either

Over 65 in Iowa - 14.6%
Over 65 in Florida - 16.8%

And Iowa is plenty better in culture, plenty of strip clubs and indie venues. Better than the annoying tourist trap crap Florida has.

I'd rather live in Tallahassee than Sioux Center. I'd rather live in Des Moines than some random Florida suburb.

This is not a good question.

Iowa. I'm used to rural/semi-rural areas. Plus, Florida irritates the hell out of me (lived there before during a few Summers. It was terrible.) and at least Iowa is considering a same-sex marriage case before their Supreme Court in December and resisted bans.

Unlike Florida, which banned it with more than 60% of the vote on the 4th.

Wait, Iowa has better strip clubs, and more numerous strip clubs, than Miami?

Srlsly?

I spent most my life in a town that was 0.08% African-American and I would probably be more likely to jump off a cliff than do so again.

Iowa has nothing that appeals to me. Florida has baseball basically year round, several multi-cultural cities, beaches, sun year round, etc. It would be quite easy to steer clear of the horrible housing developments too, eliminating the chief negative.

I'm not really a big fan of strip clubs that cater mostly to tourists and the like. They tend to be little bang for a lot of buck, and the strippers are usually fake breasted Barbie lookalikes. Not my thing at all. One of my favorite strip clubs is in uber-rural Minnesota (in a town of less than 70), about five miles from the Iowa border.

Remember that stripper who gave me a handjob without me even asking for it? That DOES NOT happen in expensive "gentlemen's clubs"!
