We had a fairly comprehensive program.  STDs, pregnancy, condoms and all that.  Not too much mention of gays though. I just remember a teacher telling us that gays aren't the only ones who can get AIDS.

I only had one sex class in high school, which narrowed down to the following:

* condoms can fail
* don't these diseases freak you guys out a lot?
* seriously if you use a condom it could fail
* condoms don't protect against those diseases that freak you out
* abortion is pretty sh**tty huh
* wait until you're married

Oh and I remember in 6th grade having a few days spent on puberty. Nothing will ever get that image of the outline of an erect penis with a TOTALLY scientific blue gradient and green graph underneath it out of my mind. It haunts me.

I was in a Christian school until my junior year, by the way.

Mine was pretty comprehensive, they stressed that abstinence was the only way to be 100% sure of not getting pregnant or getting STDs, but then listed all of the various forms of contraceptives and their clinical success rates and all that, and talked about STDs and what they are and how they're transmitted, and so forth.

I remember some basic 5th grade anti-HIV education.

Then...maybe some very basic 7th grade anatomy.

Then, nada.

My experience was similar to Gabu's, which is to say, accurate.

Not much.  But of course, back then we didn't need it.

A couple weeks of it in high scool, and a few days of it in middle school as well IIRC. Pretty comprehensive, said abstinence is the only 100% safe way but condoms were pretty safe too. Lots of talk about diseases.

I didn't have much until college:

1.  Freaky is ok.

2.  If you're not freaky, you're a "sexual fascist."

3.  Some thing are just too freaky.

4.  Wear a condom because the can't cure herpes (Pre-AIDS).

We spent a week on it. We got to caress a melon and there was an extensive tribute to condoms. We were also told that most people are more or less homosexual. And abstinence was never mentioned. Though I think it was hinted that girls should be allowed to ck around more. And most of my last term biology was spent on contraceptives, which we were actually tested on. But, then again, I was having Swedish sex education. Smiley

Yeah. From all the horror stories of "OMG Abstinence only!!!!" I hear from people, my rural school district had a great program.

The reproductive system in grade 5, STDs and sexual health in grade 6, just what 'the deed'is in year 9. Going to a state all boys school meant there was a peculiar twist: It was purely based on penetration by a/the male, but the receiver was always gender-neutral.

So THAT'S where they went wrong.  They didn't give you a complete education.  Wink

J/K of course.  Tongue

Although I did only come out to myself about that time...you may have unlocked a secret to my sexuality, MOSU. I'm still really not sure how or why I am whst I am, or even if I am 'what I am'. In fact, I rarely say 'gay' anymore except for convenience, rather I say 'non-het'.

My school gives us quite a lot of sex ed.  We have health half a semester each year, and throughout that time sex ed is woven through.  We learn the basics--abstinence is the only perfect way to avoid AIDS, STD's, etc., but my teacher always said that it's up to us.

Too much and none, you decide which Tongue

Every year 5th through 8th grade. Then I switched schools (for unrelated reasons), and had "Health" in 10th grade (which only touched on sex ed) and sex ed in 12th grade. I think it was expected that most sex ed happened in middle school.
