Absolutely not. A very socially liberal, wealthy playboy running in a socially conservative, mainly blue collar district. Then add in the fact that opebo says absolutely insane things (especially about the religious which would really hurt here, too) and I'd say that opebo couldn't get more than 10%.

Possibly, if he's running as a Liberal in Ottawa-Vanier.

No. Forget an open atheist winning a race, much less an openly atheist who is heavily bigoted and condescending.

No. My district may have Madison and stuff, but it also has a variety of very conservative rural farming areas. At most he may win parts of Madison, although even there more suburban precincts would likely vote against him.

Phil's response works here too. Add in that we're probably about 10-15% more Republican than Phil's district.

We're 53% Dem, 40% Republican and 7% other.

Bush likely got something like a 60-40 split in 2004. Sherwood carried the district in 2006. Santorum did too.

Republicans for other offices (besides City Council and Mayor in certain years) almost always lose and by comfortable margins. Partisan Dem (many union members and seniors) voting is very common. Kerry, Schwartz and Casey (who is ideal for this area) all won handily.

Relevance?  Opebo doesn't even have a spouse, and even if he did, do you honestly believe that his prospective constituents would be paying enough attention to that spouse's fashion sense (not that it should even matter, of course) to let it affect their vote?

My point is that ANYONE would win here as long as they have a D next to their name. Period, the end. No Republican can win this district under any circumstances whatsoever.

I can agree with that, but you're making the massive assumption that Opebo would win the primary first.

Now was it really so difficult to actually spell out your argument, rather than just post a url and expect people to work it out for themselves?

If he were the only Democrat, possibly. But Democrats running as independents against Democrats are not at all uncommon at the local level here, and the same would probably happen at the Assembly level.

No. But, so long as he kept quiet, he could get elected as a Tory list AM.
