On paper, Pawlenty would certainly help to balance out a ticket with McCain at the top. McCain will turn 72 in 2008, while Pawlenty will turn 48 that November. McCain is a Washington veteran, having represented his southwestern state in the U.S. Senate since 1987, while Pawlenty is a newer face, a Midwestern governor first elected in 2002.

Is not Pawlenty a tad too moderate, would not a conservative governor fit a ticket led by McCain better? Mike Huckabee seems a likley choice.

Pawlenty is hailed as a conservative Governor. He's frequently talked up as a top conservative contender for the Presidency in 2008 (if he survives his re-election bid).

Wow, McCain looks terrible in that photo.

He's not going to be able to run in 2008, watch.

If this happens, I hope McCain resigns (or I'll be sadistic-dies), because President Pawlenty doesn't sound that bad.

I tend to agree a more conservative Republican Governor would be a better pick for VP for McCain, perhaps Mike Huckabee, as mentioned, or perhaps Mark Sanford of South Carolina.

I do wonder if he'll be able to physically sustain a year-long campaign at his age.

I think McCain/Pawlenty would be a great ticket, almost as good as McCain/Graham.

Why the hell would McCain nominate a northern moderate when half of his own party thinks he's too liberal for the nomination? If anything a Huckabee comeback is more likely, and that's saying something.

I think that Pawlenty would be a good choice, and it has NOTHING to do with his status in the state.

Two thumbs down on Pawlenty as a VP choice.
