But I believe McCain is a much more substantial Presidential candidate than was Dole.

Dole also had the misfortune of running against Perot (Who I think may have drawn more Republican votes in 1996, as a proportion, than he did when he drew about evenly in 92 because Dole was seen as a librul)....and Clinton at a time when Clinton was unbeatable...
