Well, I'm going to press on with the amendments. We are now voting on the following two amendments. Please vote Aye, Nay or Abstain on each.

I make an amendment to strike the section about SUVs. Classifying them as light trucks exposes them to a lower gas mileage standard. That's not smart. Whatever is done, the 2 needs to be removed after CAFE.

Aye, Aye

(I don't object to the spirit of this bill, but I think we can craft it into much better legislation with, shall we say, aggressive amending.)

Amendments:

Friendly amendment: define the lone existing section of the bill as "Section 1."

Strike "nuclear plants" from Amendment 1 and I can support it.

Is 2009 too quick for Amendment 2?

I agree that 2009 is unreasonable for amendment 2. 2010 would be enough time.

Bacon King hasn't shown up, so we'll vote on these amendments. Please vote Aye, Nay or Abstain on each.

Oh, I don't think it's unreasonable.  A significant portion of the percentage can be made up through government investments in renewable energy much the same way you can choose to have your home powered by renewable sources.  It just costs more.

But for the sake of expediency, I'll agree to the change.

I support nuclear power too, but I also realize that it has permanent and deadly waste products that the more desirable renewable energy plants do not.

I'm not calling for an end or decommissioning of nuclear plants, just that we should put solar, wind, and geothermal/hydroelectric above it in the priority list.

(Just to expand, I believe we should maintain, continue to operate existing nuclear plants, and recommission existing plants currently out of service.  I do not believe we should be building new nuclear plants, because they are growing to be a security concern and likely to be obsolete in the not-too-distant future.)

Tally on Moderate's First Amendment
Aye: 5 (Verily; Sensei; Speed of Sound; Moderate; Ebowed)
Nay: 3 (Sam Spade; Jake; Afleitch)
Yet to vote: 2 (Bacon King; Friz)

Result on Moderate's Second Amendment
Aye: 6 (Verily; Sensei; Speed of Sound; Moderate; Afleitch Ebowed)
Nay: 2 (Sam Spade; Jake)
Abstain [Didn't vote]: 2 (Bacon King; Friz)

With six in favor, the second amendment passes. The first amendment is still at vote.

Now that the amendment vote is essentially over, I'd like to change "2009" to "2010" as a friendly amendment.
