Money quotes:

"You've got conservative whites here, and I think there are some whites who are probably not ready to vote for an African-American candidate."

"I believe, looking at the returns in my election, that had Lynn Swann [2006 Republican gubernatorial candidate] been the identical candidate that he was --well-spoken, charismatic, good-looking -- but white instead of black, instead of winning by 22 points, I would have won by 17 or so."

His Excellency The Honorable Edward G. A$$hole is, unfortunately, slightly correct.  Swann ran a bad campaign, but he probably would have run slightly better, had be been Caucasian.  Instead of 22 points, maybe 20 points.

Are there more people who wouldn't vote for a black candidate than who wouldn't vote for a female candidate?

Anyway, would such a person have voted for Kerry over Bush?  I doubt it.  Running someone other than a white male won't hurt Dems' numbers in places where they actually matter.

I can't agree with you there.  Women are obviously known, but you can actually live in rural areas and never know anyone Black.

I was wondering when someone would get the reference.  Smiley

Much like Wile, he's right of course, but he'll look like an idiot (and he is an idiot for saying it).

I've watched every single Looney Tunes episode in existence twice; there's no way you can get one by me. Tongue

Actually, in the CA exit polls they asked whether the candidate's race, sex were important.  Well, of the people who said either was important, more voted for Clinton.

Rendell needs to hold his tongue and read the exit polls from VA.

Exactly Phil. I had written out a detailed post about how Western PA would probably be the worst place for Obama to pull in support that isn't filled with Southern whites but I lost it while I was posting it. If anyone is interested I could write it up again. However to make things shorter the only places he could actually win in Western PA are Pittsburgh proper, with probably no more than 60% of the vote split between college students/latte liberals/blacks for Obama; German andIrish Catholics/blue collar workers/unionized workers/basically the old Pittsburgh Democratic machine for Clinton, and some of the more middle class affluent suburbs, Fox Chapel, Mt. Lebanon, Upper St. Clair, Robinson Township, Monroeville/Murraysville, some exurban areas in Butler County. Everything else he would be unable to probably break 40% given the demographic breakdowns that have so far been apparent in this race.

Even the late 60s Daffy Duck/Speedy Gonzales shorts?  Or the 1930s Bosko cartoons?

Okay, not the 1930s ones, but I think I have seen the late 60s ones on some occasion.
