CNN's exit poll confirms the 51-48 numbers for whites.

That's an excellent show for Obama.  He also won Democrats with 59% of the vote, and only lost white Democrats 41-59 (white independents he won 62-37).

Obama CRUSHES Clinton among men, and beats her by 16 points among women.

Ouch.

The GOP primary might end up being closer.

Racial breakdown:

Whites: 48-51
Blacks: 80-10

Strong showing among whites for Obama in a state where half of the whites are Southern.

This is going to be a LONG night for Hillary Clinton, no matter how she tries to spin it.

Momentarily, I presume.

"Might"?  If this exit poll is remotely accurate, it will almost certainly be closer.

Also of note: Obama won those wanting change (55%) 84-16.  I've noticed that that margin is getting bigger and bigger every single race.  He also won those wanting someone who cares about people and someone who is electable (!) 67-33 and 67-32.

CNN exit poll numbers suggest 62-36, more or less.

With the exact numbers on the page, it comes to being 61.08-38.48, but close enough... Smiley

According to exit polls, Obama wins Northern Virginia, Southeastern Virginia and the Richmond area with over 60%. Clinton wins western Virginia 56 to 44, which is strange, because I would have expected Edwards and Biden to pick up a few percent in western Virginia.

Well, polls close in half an hour, so we'll see soon enough if these exit polls are accurate.

Curious...how come Virginia polls closer an hour early before Maryland and DC?

Southern states generally seem to have earlier closing times. Don't know why.

keep poor voters who have to work all day to make ends meet (ie black ppl) from voting

What the hell is with Chris Matthews wanting Tim Kaine to do Virginia accents for him? Is CNN covering this now? I need to turn off MSNBC...

The only religious demographic Clinton wins on the CNN exit poll is Catholics with lax church attendence. Obama wins more religious Catholics. I find that odd and can't explain it.

Also of note: according to this exit poll, Obama won Catholics 50-49.

It also backs up that other exit poll saying that Obama won those 65 and older 53-47.

CNN is on, yes.  The rest of the night, I think through the end of Larry King Live at 1 am EST.

My sister is in Madison at the Obama rally at the Kohl center... it holds 17,000 and they have planned for overflow rooms in the lobby and elsewhere at the UW...

Methinks Obama has the dairy state in the bag.
