Richmond, Baltimore, etc., are nowhere near the Beltway.

Here is the CNN delegate count going into tonight.

Hillary Clinton -- 1,157 (923 pledged)

Barack Obama -- 1,145 (989 pledged)

CNN: "We don't plan on counting the delegates from Colorado and Washington; we can't show Obama in the lead!"

Fox News is always less restrained than the others in giving out exit poll numbers like this before polls close:

Well, chuck that exit poll.  Obama winning Seniors?

Possible if he won black seniors by 8-1 margins and then did reasonably well with white seniors.

Drudge is reporting exit polls showing Obama 2:1 win over Hillary in both MD and VA.  3 to 1 in the District.

Also says that Huckabee is close in Virginia, and there may be record black turnout in Maryland.

Well, polls close in half an hour, so we'll see soon enough if these exit polls are accurate.

Curious...how come Virginia polls closer an hour early before Maryland and DC?

Southern states generally seem to have earlier closing times. Don't know why.

Clinton campaign memo: "Virginia, Maryland and DC doesnt count!"

At this rate Clinton is well on her way to be arguing that a majority of states within the country don't matter. Tongue

Well, they don't. The only states that matter are the ones that vote for her. (And, at this point, that's definitely going to be a minority in sheer numbers.)

CNN calls Virginia for Obama

...as they accidentally just showed on the bottom Wink

Cheesy

And all I came on this thread for was to remark that polls have closed.

Anyone have link to the online CNN results page?

http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/primaries/results/state/#VA

No exit polls yet.

CNN exit poll numbers suggest 62-36, more or less.

Racial breakdown:

Whites: 48-51
Blacks: 80-10

Strong showing among whites for Obama in a state where half of the whites are Southern.

Given Obama's propensity to go up as the night goes on, this does not look like Clinton will be having a good night in Virginia.

Bit early to say that, but nothing from Arlington, Alexandria, Norfolk, Richmond, etc. yet.

The Virginia government is awesomely fast at posting results. 23% in already; Obama leads 61-38.

Looking good for Obama so far.

Still waiting for more solid information out of NoVA, though.  Contrary to CNN Fauquier County is not really a good tracker.

Alexandria City is 63% in, 66% for Obama. Fairfax County is nearly all in, 56% for Obama. Nothing from Arlington or Loudoun or Prince William or Fairfax City or Manassas City or Manassas Park City.

Edit: Left out Falls Church City. Nothing there, either.

But, boy, does VA-09 look ugly. 71% for Clinton so far.

Appalachia, created specifically so as not to include Richmond.

It's made for Clinton, basically.

You meant Roanoke, I assume, but yeah. Alas, VA-09 is sort of like a miniature version of West Virginia. She still has 67% there with 30% of it in.

Chesterfield County is (obviously) a typo and is artificially inflating Obama's total.

I hope not! Wink

Even Bill Richardson and Joe Biden are beating Clinton there (12,280-11-1-0) Cheesy

At least, when compared to Virginia.

Damn DC, trying to get it right the first time.

Pfft, count the votes as fast you can, then count them correctly the next day.

So what are the Hillary!ites saying about Chesterfield? CNN's numbers are not that odd. Pretty much in line with the rest of the State.

Chesterfield
updated 28 minutes ago

49% reporting

Obama  9,563  67%

Clinton  4,556 32%

On the Virginia government's website, they have Obama with 12,280 votes in Chesterfield County and Clinton with 0.

Top of the page, but, yeah, he's a hack. For Clinton.

Which of course is the bad kind of hack.

I didn't pass judgment on that (although I thought it unlikely that a Clinton hack would be passing on false bad news about the Clinton campaign).
