I thought Sam Spade and Mike Assad said that they were too, maybe I'm wrong though.
I'm relatively sure that Sam's white, and Assad is Middle Eastern.
Middle Easterners are considered White.
I don't think that's true for most of the country. Heck, I'm sure there are people out there who still consider Italians non-white.

There's an "Asian" category, though by ancient heritage "white" (or, rather, Caucasian) would be the most accurate description for South Asians of the three broad categories.
