Pacific General Election

Voting is also underway on the west coast for the positions of Governor and Lt. Governor. The JCP combination of Jesus and Alcon are expected to win comfortably. Two other candidates for the Governorship, Perdedor and Xahar, are also on the ballot paper, though are not expected to make an impact.

Hehe. I seem to get less and less billing in whatever election I happen to be in. Tongue

Well, unless you defy expectations, the fact that you're running is of limited news.
If you win, I can safely say that it will be headline news.

Even if Willy Woz gets a Senate seat by some fluke?

If both you and Willy Woz win this weekend, then I'll probably have to run a special editions to try and explain it.

Jas, since you seem to have an unofficial tally, could you post the current results? It would be interesting to see them currently.

Senate Mid-terms Election Update

Official voting has begun in the Senate mid-terms. Early returns are very positive for Rockefeller Republican who has taken an early lead. Rocky seems to be attracting the support of conservatives. Should that trend continue, Rocky will be very well placed to take a seat – particularly given that neither of kingofthebenchpress; South Park Conservative; nor Jake are polling well.

Colin Wixted is doing well in attracting high preferences, which should pay off down the line. Some candidates are already clearly going to face an uphill battle. Sens. Hashemite and CultureKing appear to be more likely to lose their seats than retain them. Sen. BaconKing may also be in difficulties.

It remains though very early in the election to make too many observations and it’s likely that we will be bearing down on the voting deadline before most of the winners will become clear.

In the Senate

Sen. CultureKing (JCP-D5) has introduced two bills to the Senate’s legislative agenda. The Legislation Tabling Bill seeks to set in place rules for the tabling of legislation. Current practices in this regard are based solely on established practice and precedent. The bill was originally drafted by Xahar.

CultureKing has also submitted the War Prevention Bill which appears to be by his own hand. The bill calls for the mandatory drafting of the President’s children of military age in the event of a war initiated by Atlasia. What odds on it being the first bill tabled under Legislative Tabling Act?
Meh, I would be fine if my second bill is tabled, if there is enough opposition to it then it deserves to be tabled, all I am doing is offering up ideas (its better than doing nothing right?)

Jas, since you seem to have an unofficial tally, could you post the current results? It would be interesting to see them currently.

Last voter: SPC
Total Valid Poll: 24
Quota: 4

Count 1
Rocky 4
Earl 4
afleitch 3
Lewis 3
Colin 2
Bacon 2
Sensei 1
Hash 1
Jake 1
Culture 1
SPC 1

Note: Where candidates are tied on Count 1, their order is determined by their comparative performance on 2nd preferences, then 3rd preferences etc. (In this regard CultureKing is ahead of SPC based on higher 6th preferences!)

Having reached the quota, Rocky and Earl are elected in spots 1 & 2.
There is no surplus to distribute.
Therefore the lowest ranked candiate, SPC, is eliminated and his vote redistributed.

Count 2
Distribution of SPC vote

Rocky 4
Earl 4
afleitch 4 (+1)
Lewis 3
Colin 2
Bacon 2
Sensei 1
Hash 1
Jake 1
Culture 1
SPC 0 (-1)

afleitch gains the transfer and reaches the quota.
He is deemed elected.
Still no surplus to redistribute, therefore the next lowest placed candidate, CultureKing, is eliminated.

Count 3
Distibuting CultureKing's Vote

Rocky 4
Earl 4
afleitch 4
Lewis 4 (+1)
Colin 2
Bacon 2
Sensei 1
Hash 1
Jake 1
Culture 0 (-1)
SPC 0

Lewis reaches the quota and is elected.
Still no surplus, so Jake is now eliminated.

Count 4
Distribution of Jake's vote

Rocky 4
Earl 4
afleitch 4
Lewis 4
Colin 3 (+1)
Bacon 2
Sensei 1
Hash 1
Jake 0 (-1)
Culture 0
SPC 0

Nobody else elected, so Hashemite eliminated.

Count 5
Distributing Hashemite's vote

Rocky 4
Earl 4
afleitch 4
Lewis 4
Colin 4 (+1)
Bacon 2
Sensei 1
Hash 0 (-1)
Jake 0
Culture 0
SPC 0

Colin reaches the quota and is elected to the 5th spot

Result
Elected:
#1 Rocky
#2 Earl
#3 afleitch
#4 Lewis
#5 Colin

However with the next vote cast, the quota will rise to 5 and so change the above.

The Examiner
19 April 2008

Mid-Terms Update
A day into the mid-term election and Rockefeller Republican continues to hold onto pole position. Many commentators, including this newspaper, had expressed the view that Rocky would struggle in this election - however he continues to lead on first preferences thanks to a diverse range of voters: outspoken liberal Speed of Sound; outspoken conservatives MasterJedi and Inks.LWC; AndrewCT - the only NLCer to give Rocky a first preference; and erstwhile Atlasian Polnut have all given Rocky their #1 support.

The NLC are having a good election overall. Together with Rocky, sitting Sens. afleitch and Colin Wixted are both leading contenders for Senate seats in the number 2 and 3 slots. Though EarlAW has slipped in the rankings, he continues to hold onto the prospect of a seat for the PLP - it does seem though that the core PLP vote has already turned out and Earl may need to find a few more votes to ensure his safety. Lewis Trondheim is also in the top 5, though in a position more tenuous than comfortable.

Sen. CultureKing is now competitive thanks to hardcore JCP support. The JCP have proven their ability to get their candidates elected, but it will be tough to get both Lewis and CultureKing over the line, as should CultureKing break into the top 5, then it is Lewis Trondheim who may be most likely to drop out at his expense.

Sen. BaconKing's seat is very much in danger and Sen. Hashemite would need a to see a considerable turnaround in fortune to become truly competitive for a seat. Fmr. Senators Jake and Sensei appear at this stage the only other 2 candidates who could make an impact in this race, though both would need some progress in the very near future.

Earl-tactics. I'd much rather work with you in the senate than KoBP, but practically I'm more likely to elect my fellow NPCers by ranking you lower on the ballot.

The Examiner
20 April 2008

Election Nailbiter
With only a few hours left until the close of polls, the Senate mid-term election is on a knife-edge. With 43 votes cast, The Examiner's current tally is provided above. It shows that on current numbers Lewis Trondheim, Colin Wixted, Rockefeller Republican, afleitch and Earl would be the 5 Senators-elect.

The race though remains incredibly close with Sensei, CultureKing and Bacon King all still very much in contention. Indeed, given form, this paper expects to see CultureKing in particular to gain some late momentum thanks to the JCP machine. From the reutns in so far, Sen. CultureKing is only in contention because of the full-blooded support of the JCP grassroots. Because Sen. Trondheim's support has all come from outside the JCP (himself excepted), the party have been able to rally around CultureKing alone. It remains possible that both could be elected, but a careful examination of the numbers reveal that a CultureKing surge could very well deprive Lewis of a Senate seat.

Sen. BaconKing could still be elected also, though this would almost certainly be at Colin Wixted's expense. Wixted benefits from a reasonably steady flow of transfers throughout the counts, but his status is somewhat tenuous and it is Bacon King who can potentially capitalise most should he falter.

Fmr. PLP leader Sensei, has steadily come into contention over the weekend and could yet make it, though time is running out fast. His running mate Earl, has been strongly placed all weekend, though as with everyone else, his position is far from unassailable.

Rockefeller Republican has led almost from the start of this election defying expectations. Though he looks set to finally take a Senate seat, it could yet be a nervy finish for him as it may be for his NLC colleague Sen. afleitch, though the pair must now be favoured to be successful.

I must admit myself, I'm surprised myself how well I've done this election, I thought like many I was left for dead. I was prepared to do a Nixon and say you won't have Mr. Flynn to kick around anymore, maybe next election though Tongue.

Election Update

The vote of the usually invisible (except when called upon to help the JCP out) phknrocket1k for CultureKing has put CultureKing ahead of Sensei into 6th, on the verge of breaking into the top 5. Depending on developments, Colin Wixted or Lewis Trondheim are the most likely to have to make way should the rally of inactive JCP sympathisers continue.
