My fellow Atlasians, I am hear to announce my candidacy for the Senate in District 2A. Yes, this is a late announcement and I am seeking write in support. I've been gone for about 2 months now at camp, but I have returned. My party the UAC, has not officialy endorsed anyone in this race, therefore I jump in to fill void. For you new Atlasians, you might not know me. I've been around the forum since December and was a signer of the consitution. I served as Secretary of Forum Defense, in the Nym90 cabinet, before I was appointed by President Nym90, with approval of our fine Senate, to be the first Associate Justice of the Atlas Forum Supreme Court. Most of you know where I stand on all the issues, if you don't ask someone they all know. I run on this election with the hopeful backing of the UAC, and other parties. Before the summer I spoke with then President Nym90 and told him about my desire to become a Senator at this great forum. I know my candidacy is late, and I know I'm along shot, but hey I'm going to try it anyway. So District 2A voters, please, send me to be your next Atlas Forum Senator. I will now open the floor for any questions, or endorsements of my candidacy. Goodnight, and God Bless the Atlas Forum. Thank you.

I can't speak for the party, but I'm sure either Justice Mas or Senator Akno would both be very good for the Senate. Mas fits in well w/ the UAC ideology, and the party leadership is proud to have him running under their banner.

Akno vs. Justice MAS vs. RReagan4EVER... the 2A Senate race will be a very interesting race to watch.

Don't forget NixonNow, although no one will probably vote for him.

He's still running? Wow. I thought he gave up on that. Oh well. He probably won't even vote for himself anyway so his candidacy doesn't mean much at all.

As far as giving up, he probably has abandoned any hope of actually winning.  But he has not formally withdrawn, and as it stands now his name will be on the ballot.  MAS117 won't be, though.

So the official ballot in the old 2A district will be...

Akno21 - Democrat (incumbent Senator)
RReagan4EVER - Republican
Justice MAS117 - UAC (write in)
57opinions/NixonNow/Richard M. Nixon - Independent

I have a question that I've been wondering and this seems as good a place as any to ask: I was under the impression that the "A" Senate seats come up for election concurrently with the Presidential election, not during midterm elections; why is seat 2A not following that rule?

About a month ago, Senator Beet resigned his Senate seat which called for a special election. Akno was elected and since he was elected in a special election, he must run for re-election this time.

(That's the easiest way I can explain it. Fritz would be able to give you all the details.)

Gabu, its because of this clause in the Constitution:

After an appointed Senator, or a Senator who was elected in a special election, takes office, he or she must face the nearest election whether it be the scheduled Senatorial election or a retention election.

Ah... so, would the winner of this race be up for re-election in only two months rather than four when all of the "A" seats get elected?

Because Akno was elected under a special election, he must stand again for re-election.  It is a special case.
