Mine is a guy named Pete Constant. He used to be a police officer, until he was injured so badly that he was forced out of the career. Then, he ran for City Council, and was elected unopposed in 2006.

I don't like him. He was the principal backer of porn filters at the city liberaries (what a stupid idea), and he supports the name Little Saigon (don't ask; it's an ugly, stupid story that underscores why Santa Clara County is the most conservative county in the Bay Area). I don't know how long terms for San Jose City Councilmen are, but I'll be insructing my parents to vote for whoever's opposing him.

what makes it a stupid idea? I'm not for it or anything, but I can see where they come from.

Well, librarians have said time and time again that it's not a problem, and the filters aren't exactly perfect in their work.

Because of the way our City Council works, I have two councilmen, one elected at large and one from my ward. (Gordon Johnson and Scott Reddin, respectively.) Our ward councilmen is a great guy and does a lot of good work on the city council. Our at-large councilman is okay; at least he's part of the reform camp, but he's kind of an idiot. And he's also one of my Assemblypeople.

And race always plays into it here; we are, after all, a majority black town with a majority white city council and a white mayor. Our at-large councilman is black, but our ward councilman is white.

I'm not actually sure who my city councillers are; very hard to find out much below UA level here, sadly. Carmarthenshire is an honourable exception.

He's an interesting fellow.  A popular guy, who's your run of the mill moderate conservative type, but oddly enough he was one of a small number of councillors who opposed the defunding of the crack-pipe program. (the same program that the UN is stupidly denouncing). I didn't vote for him in 2006, but he has my support in 2010 just for that... unless he runs for mayor.

I have no idea, who my councilman or woman is. We aren't informed in the City of Darebin Sad

Though, the Mayor of Darebin does want to cut down on cars parking on High Street (a major road and shopping promenade in Northcote). And nobody likes it, not even greenies like it.

Don't have one, I guess the closest would be county Legislator.

Dave Mejias D 14th LD, strongly support the guy, volunteered for him in his run for Congress against Peter King in 06.  He is a possible challenger to Kemp Hannon in the 6th SD.

Jacques Legendre. He sent us a pamphlet in November which I didn't read because I don't like reading government stuff. That's the last we heard of him; not that we're interested by him either.

I wanted to complain about OC Transpo to him via e-mail, but I decided it would've been useless. Now OC Transpo wants to reduce the number of buses or something, when they should increase them (atleast on my route).

I can't say I really like city councillors.

You don't like your aunt?

1. She isn't elected yet
2. My statement concerned only Canada
3. She can't be considered a "city" councillor in a village with 500 pop.

I don't know offhand who my city councilors are (I know there are several at-large ones, so I have multiple representatives), but I do know that if there's a developer's butt to be kissed, the Virginia Beach city council will be there.

My city councilor (Professor William Lynn) is a great man. He ran as the "Tax Payer's Best friend" in his two reelection bids, winning reelections by a landslide. He is also one of the few Libertarian Party office holders.

I filed papers in 2007 to run for his city council seat when I thought he was retiring, promising to continue his legacy as a friend of the tax payer. However, in August 2007 (a day before filing closed) he turned in the needed signitures and was on the ballot. That is why I dropped out and promptly signed up for his campaign.

Positive. I helped him out a bit last year. He's the only truly elected Republican in the city. All our other Republican officials are mandated by the City Charter. He has been in office since 1980 and consistently wins by big margins in this Democratic district. Last year was supposed to be his big scare. He won 58-42.

Very high, I know him personally. He is a super guy, very smart. Also, he is believed to be the first openly gay person electred in Tennessee.

It's weird but I support it. For example, our City Commissioners (three of them) run the elections in the city. They are elected - Two Dems, One Republican. When it comes to administering our elections, keeping track of registrations, ect. it is best that it is a bipartisan board.

I see. So they are still elected, but not WTA.

Yes, they're elected but this is how it works...

Dem primary - top two candidates advance to General (and win)

Republican primary - top two candidates advance to General (hardly ever a real primary here but that's a discussion for another time - top vote getter out of these two wins)

It's similar for Council At Large except we are guaranteed two seats, bringing our grand total to three members...out of seventeen.
